Abstract

1488789 Gas lighters ROWENTA-WERKE GmbH 23 March 1976 [11 June 1975] 11659/76 Heading F4F A gas lighter comprises a filling valve 4 and a cover 3 therefore, which is connected to the lighter housing 2 and has at least three elastically deformable segments 7 with their apices directed towards each other, the centres of the apices and the filling valve opening being axially spaced from one an other, and substantially in registry with each other. Cover 3 may be an integral part of housing 2.

Description

This invention concerns- improvements in gas lighters and more particularly gas lighters having a covered filling valve.
Gas lighters with covered filling valves are known.
In general, so-called cover screws are screwed into the lighter over the filling valve opening, in order to cover the filling valve. To refill the lighter with fuel, the cover screw has to be unscrewed and removed from the lighter. One disadvantage of this type of cover 10 is the fact that the task of refilling a gas lighter requires a not inconsiderable amount of work. Moreover, it is very easy for such cover screws to come undone on their own and be lost. In that event loss of the cover leads to soiling of the filling valve. It is also 15 known to seal a gas lighter with a removable casing.
In order to refill this type of lighter, the casing has to be removed from the lighter, in order to enable the lighter to be refilled with fuel. This type of cover for the filling valves of gas lighters is likewise extremely inconvenient to handle.
It is an object of the invention to provide a cover for the filling'valve opening of a gas lighter which does not need to be removed when the lighter is to be - 2 43360 refilled, is easy to open and which also protects the filling valve from being soiled.
According to the invention we provide a gas lighter having a filling valve and a cover therefor connected to the lighter housing said cover comprising at least three elastically deformable segments with their apices directed towards each other, in the region of the filling valve opening, the centre of said apices and the filling axially opening being/spaced from one another and substantially in registry with each other. Preferably the segments are inclined towards one another and relative to the cover.
In this way, it is ensured that the filling valve opening is well covered. Dust particles and other impurities cannot soil the filling valve opening. It is not necessary to remove the cover in order to refill the gas lighter.
By means of the outlet valve of a refill ampoule, the elastically deformable segments may be pressed apart and the outlet valve of the ampoule and the filling valve of the lighter are connected to each other. When the filling procedure is finished, the gas ampoule and lighter are separated from one another. Owing to their elastic deformability, the segments then again resume their - 3 43360 original position and cover the opening of the filling valve.
An embodiment by way of example of a lighter according to the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which:Figure 1 shows a plan view of a valve cover for a gas lighter and Figure 2 shows a section through, a lighter housing with a filling valve and cover according to the invention.
By way of example, four elastically deformable segments 7 having apices are arranged in the middle of a cover 3. The apices of the segments 7 face one another and thus form the centre 5 of the segment apices. Narrow cuts 6 are made between the individual segments 7.
The individual segments 7 are inclined relative to one another. They are also inclined relative to the cover 3.
The cover 3 is firmly connected to the lighter housing 2, However, it is also possible for the cover 3 to be an integral part of the lighter housing 2. The centre 5 of the segment apices and the filling valve opening 4 are located at a given axial spacing from and substantially in registry with one another. As a /result, it is possible for the segments 7 to be bent back during the filling process and for the filling valve opening - 4 4 to be able to make an effective connection with the outlet valve opening (not shown) of a refill ampoule.
As many segments as required may be mounted over the filling valve opening 4. In order to ensure secure minimum of covering of the filling valve opening A, however,/three segments 7 with their apices facing one another should be provided. The number of segments 7 has no upper limit.

Claims (3)

1. A gas lighter having a filling valve, and a cover therefor, said cover being connected to the housing of the lighter and in the region of the filling valve opening 5 comprising at least three elastically deformable segments with their apices directed towards each other the centre of said apices and the filling valve opening being axially spaced from one another and substantially in registry with each other. 10
2. A gas lighter according to claim 1, wherein said segments are inclined relative to one another and relative to the cover.
3. A gas lighter substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
