1534183 Bituminous compositions SOC CHIMIQUE DES CHARBONNAGES 17 Sept 1976 [19 Sept 1975 19 Aug 1976] 38670/76 Headings C3M and C3N Compositions suitable for road construction materials comprise (1) at most 95% bitumen and (2) at least 5% ethylene/vinyl ester copolymer containing 5-70% of C 3-12 vinyl ester units, partially crosslinked with -OMO- or with -OBO- and/or -OCRR<SP>1</SP>O- bridges where M is a Group II, III, IV or V metal of valence at least 2 and R and R<SP>1</SP> are H or aliphatic or aromatic groups. The compositions may be formed by mixing and reacting the copolymer with a metal alcoholate and optionally with boric acid and/or an aldehyde or ketone. The compositions may also contain 10 to 50%, by weight of the bitumen, of sulphur. In examples ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers are reacted with aluminium isopropylate and with boric acid with and without hexamethylene tetramine or paraformaldehyde, with aluminium isopropylate and with boric acid and benzaldehyde; and with titanium butylate and with boric acid and paraformaldehyde.
