Abstract

Process for the preparation of hydroxybenzaldehydes by hydrocarbonylation of the corresponding halophenols. More precisely, a process for the preparation of hydroxybenzaldehydes by reaction of a halophenol with a carbon monoxide/hydrogen mixture in the presence of a tertiary amine and a catalyst based on a noble metal and a phosphine. The process makes it possible in particular to prepare vanillin from 4-bromo-2-methoxyphenol. [EP0331593A1]
