Abstract

Suspended hog carcasses are passed continuously through drying units 3 and singeing units 4, 5 and are turned in the singeing units to produce an even singeing. The carcasses enter and leave through reducing doors 10 and are dried initially by gas passed from a singeing unit. In the singeing units the carcasses are singed by oil or gas burners and by heat reflected from the unit walls. Combustion gas from the singeing units 4, 5 is passed through drying units 3, then is passed to a heat recovery system which may preheat air drawn in for combustion. <IMAGE> [GB2219380A]
