Abstract

An aluminium angle profile with a side leg delimiting a "U" cross section, characterized in that the profile consists of a half-hard aluminium alloy and that the angle between the traverse element (3) and at least the one free side leg (1,2) is smaller than 90 . <Figure 1>

Description

The novelty relates to one side leg delimiting ile with at least Such profiles are known, among orner things, as U-, H- and angle profiles. They are used especially in the construction of furniture and shelves as corner protection means (U-profiles), for connecting butt-jointed boards (H-profiles) and for connecting only rectangularly adjoining boards (angle profiles). The known profiles can be obtained in different widths according to the most frequently used ranges of standard board thickness of between 6 and regularly 21 mm. The clearance of the profiles is either precisely the same or a number of percent higher than the thickness of the respective boards. In the first case, mounting is at least extremely difficult for the unskilled person, but leads to a tight fit of the profile on the board. Although in the latter case mounting is easy, the profiles need to be fixed additionally by gluing and/or screwing onto the board.
The novelty is based on the object of creating a family of aluminum angle profiles of the kind mentioned above which can be mounted easily and without tools by unskilled persons and which thereafter still sit on the board without any gaps and without being movable on the board in the case of standard usage.
In accordance with the novelty, this object is achieved in such a way that the profile consists of a half-hard aluminum alloy and that the angle between the traverse element and at least the one free side leg is smaller than 90° (claim 1).
IE 0 3 0 Η 0 The clearance of the profile is therefore slightly lower at the free ends of the side legs than the height of the traverse element. When pushed onto the board, the side legs move apart to the thickness dimension of the board. The resilient pretension thus produced in the side legs of the profile ensures a close and a tight fit of the board.
The angle between the traverse element and at least the one side leg is preferably 89.5° (claim 2).
A better fit is achieved when the clearance of the profile at the base of the side leg, i.e. at the level of the traverse element, is slightly smaller (e.g. 0.1 mm) than the nominal width (i.e. the thickness) of the respective board material (claim 3).
At least one of the side legs can taper in the direction of its free longitudinal edge (claim 4). The magnitude of the tapering depends on the desired elasticity behavior of the side leg.
In order to achieve an appealing appearance, at least one of the side legs can be rounded off on the. outside at its free longitudinal edge.
In this case the radius of the rounding is appropriately chosen in such a way that the width of the face surface of the free longitudinal edge is less than 30% of the mean thickness of the material of the leg (claim 6).
The novelty is now explained in closer detail by reference to the enclosed drawing which shows an only exemplary U-profile in a cross-sectional view.
The two side legs 1 and 2 enclose an angle of 89.5° each with the traverse element 3. The clearance between the side legs 1, 2 IE 0 J 01 7 Q is 15.9 itun for example at the level of the traverse element 3 when the profile is intended for a board with a thickness of 16 mm. The clearance between the two free longitudinal edges of the legs 1, 2 is depending on the absolute measure 0.2 to 0.8 mm for example less than the respective board thickness.
At their free longitudinal edges (at la or 2a), the side legs are rounded off on the outside in such a way that the width of the face surface of the longitudinal edges is only approx. 25% of the mean material thickness of the legs. Depending on the clearance of the profile, this material thickness lies in the region of between 1 and 2 mm.
In addition, the free longitudinal edges of the side legs can also be provided with a (substantially smaller) radius on the inner side in order to facilitate the mounting, i.e. the insertion of the profile on the board.
Whereas a respective H-profile can be understood as being a profile made of two such U-profiles with a common traverse leg, in the case of a respective angle profile the side leg of the one U-profile simultaneously forms the second longitudinal leg of the other U-profile which is pivoted by 90° about its longitudinal axis. In this case it may suffice to form only the second side leg of the second U-profile according to the present proposal. In this case however the angle between said side leg and the adjoining traverse element can be smaller and be only 89° for example.
