Description
THREE PART DOG COAT,
Field .of invention
Title of invention; Three Part Dog Coat, relates to a general purpose coat for animals, specifically for dogs, with an innovative design in relation to being comprised of 3 individual parts that are combined, or not combined, thus providing greater or lesser coverage of the body and protection from weather; which is adjustable to accommodate animals of different size and shape within each particular size range. This invention is primarily intended for a dog, hence, for simplicity of this document; the dog shall be exclusively referred to hereafter in the description.
Background to the invention
Garments and apparel made specifically for dogs date back centuries, and in more recent years; devised and utilised mainly for the purpose of protecting the dogs from inclement weather.
Prior dog coats have generally failed to provide both comfort and maximum protection against cold and rain, many are complicated to fit and have a belt which passes around the torso behind the front legs leaving the belly parts unprotected, and these coats do not account for variable weather conditions, so therefore are more limited in the scope of their use.
Accordingly there exists a need for a secure, adjustable coat which offers maximum or minimum coverage of the dog, whilst allowing full unrestricted movement, practical and easily fitted to the dog.

The advantage to this present invention is to provide an adaptable coat which can be used in changeable weather conditions and also as an indoor garment for extra warmth.
The coat is of simple construction, is easy to clean and provides both indoor and outdoor coats in one.
The Belly Pad is interchangeable and caters for male or female dogs, thus meaning that one coat can be used for dogs of both sexes simply by changing the Belly Pad used. The shape of the male Belly Pad provides maximum coverage of the belly whilst allowing urination without soiling the fabric.
in one embodiment the inner Back Cover provides the attachment at neck and tail, for the outer Raincoat and also attachment at shoulders and longitudinal sides for attachment of Belly Pad, also an opening to facilitate the use of a walking harness. In one embodiment, the Back Cover and Belly Pad combine together to make an indoor coat.
In one embodiment the fabric Raincoat provides attachment for the Back Cover, an adjustable collar around the neck, a strap with a male fastener part is arranged on one coat front body, a strap with a female fastener part is arranged on the other front coat body a short distance beneath the collar, an adjustable strap with a male fastener part is arranged on one side of the coat body, and a strap with a female fastener part is arranged on the opposite side of the coat body which closes around the torso behind the dogs front legs. An opening which is covered when not in use is provided to facilitate the use of a walking harness, it corresponds with the opening on the Back
Cover and it is sited on the top of the Raincoat body, a small distance from the collar line.
In one embodiment for a larger dog, a tail flap shaped with darts is seam sewed to the lateral end of the Raincoat, adjustable leg straps are attached with a male fastener part are arranged on both longitudinal sides of the Raincoat body, and straps with a female fastener part are arranged on either side of the tail flap of the coat, these clip together around the dogs rear legs under the rear torso.
