Abstract

The invention relates to an injection cannula with a catheter. It relates to an injection cannula (2) comprising a sheath (4), a handle part (6) and a catheter part (8). According to the invention, the handle part has a gripping member (16) in which a cannula (14) is mounted, the catheter part (8) is a catheter (12) connected to a catheter base (10) and supported by the cannula (14), and the sheath (4), when mounted, surrounds the cannula (14), the catheter (12) which it supports and at least a part of the base (10) of the catheter. Description

INFUSION CANNULA The accompanying pictures illustrate an embodiment of a new infusion cannula for use in medical treatment.
The embodiment is illustrated by a series of pictures, viz. Figs 1 and 2 showing the entire cannula, and Figs 3 and 4 showing parts thereof, the infusion cannula being transparent in Fig. 1 and non-transparent in Fig. 2.
In the following, the embodiment will be described in more detail with reference to Figs 1-4. Like parts are provided with the same reference numerals.
The series of pictures 1-4 illustrates a first embodiment of an infusion cannula 2 which in its entirety is shown in Figs 1 and 2. It comprises an elongate tubular sheath 4 which is releasably connected to a handling portion 6, see Figs 3 and 4. As is evident from Fig. 3, the handling portion 6 supports a catheter portion 8 which is illustrated in more detail in Fig. 4 and which comprises a catheter 12 integrated with a catheter base 10. The handl 20 ing portion 6 further comprises a cannula 14 secured in a gripping member 16 which in turn is releasably connected to a closure means 18 which, when using the infusion cannula, allows air to pass at the same time as it stops the blood reflux from the blood indication. The closure means 18 is substantially tubular and contains a filter 20.
After removal of the closure means 18 from the gripping member 16, the gripping member is connectible to e.g. a syringe (not shown).
The infusion cannula 2 is used in the following man30 ner. After removal of the wrapper surrounding the cannula 2, the sheath 4 is removed, which in its mounted state completely encloses the cannula 14, the catheter 12 supported by the cannula, as well as the catheter base 10 and the front portion of the gripping member 16. To fix the sheath 4 in a satisfactory manner, the inside thereof is provided with at least one raised portion 26 which, in the mounted state of the sheath, engages behind a shoulder 28 at the front edge of the gripping member 16. By removing the sheath 4, the cannula 14 and the cathether 12 supported thereby are released. To ensure a reliable grip when removing the sheath 4 and in the subsequent handling of the cannula 2, the sheath 4 as well as the gripping member 16 are formed with grooves and ridges 22 and 24, respectively, which extend in the longitudinal direction of the cannula 2. The cannula 14 is then caused to penetrate the skin and the blood vessel, the catheter 12 thus being placed in the blood vessel. When the closure means 18 is removed, it is possible to apply for instance a syringe. After removal of the cannula, the catheter base 10 can be connected to other medical equipment for e.g. supply of liquid to the blood vessel.
