Abstract
A renovator for suede and nubuck leather which comprises a fluorchemical resin together with isopropyl alcohol. Preferably, the isopropyl alcohol and the resin are present in a ratio in the range 1:0.013 to 0.015.
Description
A SUEDE AND NUBUCK LEATHER RENOVATOR COMPOSITION
This invention relates to a suede and nubuck leather renovator composition.
The invention, therefore, provides a renovator composition for suede and nubuck leather which comprises a fluorchemical resin together with isopropyl alcohol. The resin preferably comprises an acrylic fluorinated copolymer having the following characteristics viz a density at 20°C of about 0.96; a flash point of about 22°C; a boiling point of about 115°C; and a freezing point of less than -18°C. The active solids of the copolymer amount to about 40% with the remaining 60% comprising methylisobutylkotane. In the composition, the ratio of the isopropylalcohol to resin is in the range 1:0.013 to 0.015 and most preferably 1:0.014. The composition may also comprise propylene glycol mono-methyl ether.
The following Example serves to illustrate a method of manufacture of the composition.
To the isopropyl alcohol is added the propylene glycol mono-methyl ether and the resulting mixture is stirred. The resin in the form of acrylic fluorinated copolymer is then added with continuous stirring If the polish is to be used on a white leather, no further chemicals are required. However, if required for leather other than white in colour, a suitable dye may be added with stirring for about five minutes.
The resulting composition is packaged in an aerosol container together with suitable propellants such as propane gas and butane gas.
It has been found that this composition renovates and protects suede and nubuck leather.

Claims (5)
1. A renovator composition for suede and nubuck leather which comprises a fluorchemical resin together with isopropyl alcohol.
2. A composition as claimed in claim 1 wherein the resin comprises an acrylic fluorinated copolymer.
3. A composition as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the isopropyl 10 alcohol and the resin are present in a ratio in the range 1:0.013 to 0.015, most preferably 1:0.014.
4. A composition substantially as hereinbefore described. 15
5. A method of manufacturing a renovator composition substantially as hereinbefore described and with particular reference to the Example.
