Abstract

A locking device for a washing line is described, which allows fixing of the washing line at any selected height above the ground and is easy to operate by the old or infirm. It comprises a base (2), a spool (6) which is engageable with a washing line, a means to rotate the spool (12) and a means to lock the spool against rotation which comprises an end wall on the spool (8) which is engageable with a cam (11) which is pivotably attached to the device adjacent the end wall (8).
