Abstract

The invention concerns a loading device which is particularly suitable for loading rectangular bales disposed in pairs (one on top of the other) onto the conveyor floor of a bale wrapping machine. The loading device includes gripping means for engaging and gripping the bales, and lifting means for lifting the bales upwards through an arc of substantially 180° in a substantially vertical plane, and lowering the bales onto the conveyor, the bales being turned through substantially 180° during the lifting step such that they are laid in an upside down position, one on top of the other, on the conveyor. The loading device has a main lifting arm assembly which is pivotally connected to the chassis of the bale wrapping machine, and extends laterally therefrom, and is moveable, in a vertical plane, through an arc of substantially 90°. Bale gripping means are pivotally connected to the main lifting arm assembly and moveable, relative to the main lifting arm assembly through a further arc of substantially 90°.
