Abstract

A strap (10) for securing a net to a goal post includes an elongate strip of material (11) including an array of hooks (9) and an array of eyes (14) cooperable with said hooks arranged on a surface of the strip. In use, one end of the strip, which includes an aperture (13) through which the opposite end of the strip passes, enables said array of hooks to engage said array of eyes and form a secure loop. In use, the strap can be secured to form a loop around a portion of the net and the goal post.<Fig.1>

Description

The present invention relates to a strap for securing a net to a goal post.
It has long been a problem, where a net must be removed from a goal post after use, to provide a simple, reusable and safe device, which does not interfere unduly with flight of a ball, for securing the net to the goal post.
According to the present invention there is provided a strap for securing a net to a goal post, the strap including fastener means so that in use, the strap can be secured to form a loop around a portion of the net and the goal post.
Preferably, the strap includes an elongate strip of material including an array of hooks and an array of eyes cooperable with said hooks arranged on a surface of said strip, one end of said strip including an aperture through which in use the opposite end of the strip passes to enable said array of hooks to engage said array of eyes and form a secure loop.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a strap according to the invention; OPEN IO PUQUC INSPECTION SECTION 26 AND RULE 23 JNL No ...1315......OF 2Ϊ/3 - 2 IE 960294 Figure 2 is an elevation view of the strap of Figure 1 of the drawings; and Figure 3 is a perspective view of a goal post with a plurality of the straps of Figure 1 in use.
Referring now to the drawings wherein similar numerals have been used to indicate like parts, there is shown a strap for securing a net to a goal post generally indicated at 10 according to the invention.
The strap 10 comprises an elongate strip 11 of flexible backing material. One flat surface 9 of the backing material is covered with an array of hooks of the Velcro™ type. At one end 12 the strip is folded over on itself to form a loop into which a buckle 13 is located. The buckle is secured in the loop 12 by stitching back the end 12 to the surface 9 of the strip 11.
A second strip 14 covered with an array of eyes of the Velcro™ type is fixed over the surface 9 of the backing material and extends from the opposite end 15 towards a mid-point 16 of the strip 11.
The end 15 of the strip 11 may thus be looped through the aperture in the buckle 13 over on itself to extend past the mid-point 16 so that the eyes of the strip 14 may engage the hooks on the strip 11 and secure the strap in a loop, Figure 1.
The strap of the present embodiment finds particular utility, when a plurality of said straps are used to secure a net 20 to a goal post 30, Figure 3. Each strap 10 is looped around the post and a section of the net, with the buckle 13 preferably being disposed on a side of the post facing away from play. - 3 IE 960294 It will been seen that the strap is sufficiently long to allow the strap to loop around a goal post and for the strip 14 to loop back and engage the array of eyes formed on the strip 11 without being so long as to be untidy or unsightly.
It will also be seen that the strap according to the invention sits substantially flush with the surface of the goal post and thus does not interfere unduly with the flight of a ball striking the post.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments described herein which may be modified or varied without departing from the scope of the invention. For example, any suitable fastener means can be used to secure the strap in a loop around the goal post.
