Description

DISPLAY RACK The present invention relates to a display rack, in particular a display rack for magazines.
Magazines present a major problem in merchandising in that the number and variety of magazines that a retailer has to handle are very many. Also, magazines are heavy articles to merchandise. Of the prior art systems that are available for merchandising magazines, there is none which is both adaptable and has the necessary strength.
The present invention provides a display rack comprising a pair of metal supports each of which is provided with a plurality of brackets and a corresponding number of racks engageable with opposed pairs of the brackets, each of the racks having a front wall through which all or a portion of articles to be merchandised are visible.
The invention will hereinafter be more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawings which show, by way of example only, one embodiment of a display rack according to the invention. In the embodiment described, the display rack is a rack for displaying magazines. In the drawings:- figure 1 is a perspective view of the magazine rack; Figure 2 is a side view of the magazine rack; Figure 3 is a side view of the magazine rack similar to Figure 2 and also' showing the magazine rack in a dotted view sloped at a more acute angle; Figure 4 is a perspective -view of a detail of the magazine rack showing how a rack is engaged with its support brackets; and Figure 5 is a further perspective view of a detail of a modified means of securing a rack to its support bracket.
Referring to the drawings and initially to Figures 1 to 4, magazine rack 10 comprises a pair of side supports 20 each of which carries fifteen integral brackets 30. A transparent plastics material rack 40 spans each pair of brackets 30.
The racks 40 are manufactured from acrylic, although they can also be manufactured from any other transparent plastics material which has the necessary strength, such as PETG, polycarbonate or the like. Each rack 40 has a high front wall 41 through which customers can view the front covers of magazines for sale. A base 42 and a low rear wall 43 complete the structure of each rack 40. A cut out 44 is provided at the junction of the base 42 and rear wall 43. Each cut out 44 locks around rear segment 32 of each bracket 30. This arrangement allows the racks 40 to locate in position on the brackets 30.
Each bracket 30 is fixed to one of the side supports 20 and is set at the angle at which each specific rack 40 is to display magazines at. The bottom three brackets 30 on each support 20 protrude forward of the side supports 20. A space 50 is provided at the base of the magazine rack 10 on shelf 60 for merchandising other products such as newspapers.
The magazine rack 10 is located in position on shelf 60 by a key 24 engaging with a slot in back wall 65 at the upper end of each side support 20 and by a leg 26 at the base of the support 20. As shown in dotted view in Figure 3, the rack 10 may be tilted at a different angle by moving the legs 26 forward or back on the shelf 65 and engaging key 24 in a further slot on the back wall 65.
To further stabilize magazine rack 10 an adjustable tie bar 75 is provided which spans between the two supports 20 as shown in Figure 4. A modification shown in Figure 5 entails the use of suction pads 35 to secure the rack 40 to bracket 30.
Although, the specific embodiment has been described in relation to the merchandising of magazines, the display rack of the invention can be utilized to merchandize any flat or flat packed articles.
It is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details described above, which are given by way of example only, and that various modifications and alterations are possible without departing from the scope of the invention.
