Abstract
Apparatus (1) for handling meat cuts comprises a conveyor (2) for delivery of trays (3) containing meat cuts. An inspection table (5) is mounted on a track (6) below and to one side of the conveyor. Tipping means (7) is provided on the conveyor (2) for tipping meat cuts (10) from a tray (3) onto the inspection table (5) on which they are spread for inspection by an operator (15) standing on a walkway (16) above a number of separate bulk containers (17). The inspection table (5) is movable by the operator (15) for delivery of inspected meat cuts into an appropriate container (17) associated with the cuts being inspected.
Description
A very wide variety of meat cuts are produced in a meat processing plant. To avoid bottlenecks in the production process the different cuts are loaded into individual trays which are carried on a conveyor system to dedicated packing stations associated with particular cuts. There are various systems for optimizing the dedicated packing stations. However, there are particular problems when exceptional circumstances arise such as the packing of different meat cuts in bulk, for example into tote bins.
This invention is directed towards providing a system which will overcome these problems.
Statements of Invention
According to the invention there is provided apparatus for handling of meat cuts comprising: a conveyor for delivery of trays containing meat cuts;
an inspection table mounted on a track below the conveyor;
tipping means on the conveyor for tipping the meat cuts onto the inspection table;
the inspection table being movable on the track for delivery of inspected meat cuts into one of a number of different bulk containers.

-2Preferably the bulk containers are located below the level of the inspection table for delivery of meat cuts into the containers.
Most preferably the apparatus includes a chute for delivery of meat cuts directly into a bulk container.
Ideally the conveyor includes a chute delivery means for tipping of meat cuts from the conveyor into the chute.
The invention also provides bulk meat cuts whenever handled by an apparatus of the invention.

Detailed Description
Referring to the drawings there is illustrated apparatus 1 for handling meat cuts comprising a conveyor 2 for delivery of trays 3 containing meat cuts. An inspection table 5 is mounted on a track 6 below and to one side of the conveyor. Tipping means 7 is provided on the conveyor 2 for tipping meat cuts 10 from a tray 3 onto the inspection table 5 on which they are spread for inspection by an operator 15 standing on a walkway 16 above a number of separate bulk containers

-317. The inspection table 5 is movable by the operator 15 for delivery of inspected meat cuts into an appropriate container 17 associated with the cuts being inspected.
The apparatus also includes a chute 20 for delivery of meat cuts directly into a bulk container. Such a chute 20 may be used, for example, for waste cuts to be disposed of or for reordering. A chute delivery means in the form of a tray tipping station 25 is used to discharge contents of a tray into the chute 20.
In use, trays 3 containing a wide variety of meat cuts are led along the conveyor 2 to the inspection station. Some trays 3 containing waste cuts are emptied directly into the chutes 20. The main bulk of the trays 3 have meat cuts to be inspected, sorted and bulk packed. The operator 15 activates the tipping means 7 to discharge the tray contents onto the inspection table 5 on which the operator 15 inspects individual cuts. The operator then moves the table 5 on the tracks 6 until the table is aligned with a determined bulk container associated with a particular cut. The meat cuts are then loaded into the container and the process is repeated for further trays.
The presence of an inspection tables mounted on guide tracks above bulk container level and below the tray conveyor greatly facilitates ease of handling . A single operator may easily inspect and sort a very large number of cuts for bulk packing.
The invention is not limited to the embodiments hereinbefore described which may be varied in construction and detail.

Claims (5)
1. Apparatus for handling of meat cuts comprising:a conveyor for delivery of trays containing meat cuts; an inspection table mounted on a track below the conveyor; tipping means on the conveyor for tipping the meat cuts onto the inspection table; the inspection table being movable on the track for delivery of inspected meat cuts into one of a number of different bulk containers.
2. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 wherein the bulk containers are located below the level of the inspection table for delivery of meat cuts into the containers.
3. Apparatus as claimed in claim 1 or 2 including a chute for delivery of meat cuts directly into a bulk container.
4. Apparatus as claimed in claim 3 wherein the conveyor includes a chute delivery means for tipping of meat cuts from the conveyor into the chute.
5. Bulk meat cuts whenever handled by an apparatus as claimed in any preceding claim.
