Abstract

A modular furniture system comprising a plurality of elongated elements (6) which are intended to be connected to one another so as to form a furniture frame, and comprising connecting members (3) for connecting the elements to one another, the system being characterized in that: at least the end portion of said elements being tubular, all the end portions having essentially the same cross-section, there being holes (8) at both end portions of said elements at least at one face thereof, the holes being at a distance D from the element's ends; said connecting members being longitudinal and having a cross-sectional shape such that they fit snugly into said end portions, each of said members being adapted for screw engagement with a bolt which is perpendicular to the member's longitudinal axis at two locations so positioned that when the member is inserted into adjacent end portions of two successive elements, these locations come to lie in register with said holes, the distance between the locations being equal to 2D.
