Abstract

Artificial bone and dental or surgical tools e.g. screw taps and drills are made of oxide-ceramic material. The oxide ceramic may comprise (1) 99.5% aluminium oxide (Al2O3) with traces of chromium oxide (Cr2O3), (2) aluminium oxide with binding agents such as Mo, TiC, Mo2C, SiO2 or MgO or (3) BeO, MgO or ZrO2. The artificial bone may be in the form of screw-like implants which may be fitted into a jaw-bone and used to support artificial teeth. The implants are fitted into holes in the jaw-bone which have been prepared with the drills and taps of oxide-ceramic material.
