Abstract

Chemically bonded non-woven material contg. a microheteroporous binder is made by impregnating a fibre fleece with a heat- stabilised, aq. polymer dispersion, destabilising the aq. polymer dispersion to form a porous gel structure satd. with prim. moisture (water), cross linking the polymer at below 150 deg.C and dehydrating the cross-linked polymer. Pref. the fibre fleece is impregnated with an aq. heat-sensibilised polymer dispersion contg. a 1-30% solvent emulsion and a cross-linkable conjugated diene polymer binder used in an amt. of 50-200 wt.%, esp. 100 wt.% w.r.t. fibrous material. The polymer may be softened or plasticised by incorporating a non-ionic cpd. contg. hydratable polar gps. Good water vapour absorption in the sheet is obtd. by incorporating 1-60 wt.% (w.r.t. the dispersion) of a hydratable sulphonic cpd. Simple processing technology is used and no atmospheric pollution is caused. Prods. have good flexibility, softness and hygienic properties and good shapability, and cross-linking can be carried out at relatively low temps. (110-120 deg.C) using superheated steam. The prods. are esp. useful as bases for artificial leather.
