Abstract

A heat exchanger system which can be used to heat treat materials at temps. less than 100 deg.C uses steam at reduced pressure as the heating medium. The system uses a jet ejector to partially evacuate the heat exchanger chamber and reduce the condensing temps. of the steam. The amt. and temp. of driving fluid (usually water) applied to the ejector nozzle can be adjusted to give control of the condensing pressure and hence the steam temp. the system may also be used to supply cooling medium (water) to the heat exchanger if reqd. The system comprises a heat exchanger unit which may be e.g. a jacketed process vessel) fed with steam at reduced pressure from a redn. valve, and evacuated using a jet ejector device. The evacuation system has a jet ejector whose nozzle is fed wtih driving fluid (usually water) from a header tank via a pump. The amt. of make-up water is controlled by a valve from a temp. The temp. of the driving fluid used to control the chamber pressure sensor via controller. A second valve controls the liq. level in the header tank from level sensor and valve controller.
