Abstract

The system (1) for automatically controlling a motor vehicle drive unit (8) comprises a hydraulic actuating unit (16) for actuating a control member (17) controlling selection and engagement of the gears on the vehicle transmission (7). A hydraulic actuator (24) actuates a control member (25) controlling the clutch (5). An electronic control system (9) processes input signals relative to operating parameters of the drive unit (8) and vehicle in general, and controls the actuators (16,24) to varying degrees of automation. In particular, the control system (9) produces variable control signals for respective proportional solenoid valves (18,27) controlling the actuators (16,24) so as to vary hydraulic supply to the actuators and consequently the actuating force of the same for simulating operation by a skilled driver.
