La presente invenzione si riferisce ad un articolo in acciaio di bassa lega, come un blocco stampo per lavorazioni a caldo, ed in particolare ad un tale blocco stampo che ha una eccellente temprabilità ed un elevato diametro critico mentre richiede quantità minime degli elementi Ni e Mo correntemente costosi.Detto acciaio presenta essenzialmente la seguente composizione percentuale in peso: C 0.42-0,52; Si 0,15-0,35; Ni 0,65-0,95; Cr 1,40-1,60; Mo 0,30-0,50; Mn 0,75-0,95; V 0,04-0,10; S 0,010-0,025; Ti 0,003-0,075; Al 0,015-0,030; Ca circa il 15 % di Al; H 2,2 ppm massimo: 0 30 ppm massimo: Fe bilancio e impurezze non dannose.
