Trattasi di una struttura di caffettiera a funzionamento totalmente autonomo. Tale caffettiera comprende una cartuccia, contenente una certa quantità di caffè, macinato o liofilizzato, la quale è posta fra una caldaietta, inferiore, contenente dell'acqua, ed un idoneo recipiente superiore, destinato a raccogliere l'infuso. Sotto la suddetta caldaietta, è previsto un vano attrezzato, racchiudente una sostanza chimica, che, venendo a contatto con ossigeno, o con altro appropriato reagente, è in grado di portare in ebollizione e, quindi, allo stato di vapore, l'acqua contenuta nella caldaietta medesima.
