DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
Annessa a domanda di brevetto per INVENZIONE INDUSTRIALE avente per titolo Attached to a patent application for INDUSTRIAL INVENTION having the title
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for forming a container of food products.
A container forming apparatus of the type described in US2011 / 0272861 is known. This apparatus comprises a carousel located upstream of a preform stretch-blow molding station. The carousel comprises a plurality of gripping elements each designed to extend internally to a corresponding preform to grip it. The gripping elements each comprise a corresponding dispensing nozzle of a sterilizing agent. Furthermore, each preform can be moved by the gripping means to be introduced inside an annular structure in which it is heated by microwaves.
The sterilizing agent is introduced when preform heating has already begun. This heating takes place by exposing the preforms to microwaves. The sterilizing agent thus comes into contact with the internal walls of the preform which are (already hot) below the gripping means which obstruct the preform near the opening.
A drawback of this constructive solution is linked to the constructive complexity of the gripping means which integrate the dispensing nozzle of the sterilizing agent and to the systems necessary for dosing, vaporising, thermally insulating and distributing the sterilizing agent on the rotating manifold. A further drawback of the above constructional solution is that both the internal and external portions of the preform close to the inlet are not subjected to a sterilization process.
In this context, the technical task underlying the present invention is to propose a method and an apparatus for forming a container starting from a preform which overcomes the aforementioned drawbacks of the known art.
In particular, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method and an apparatus for sterilizing a preform and forming a container which allows a better distribution of the sterilizing agent on the preform; a further object is to simplify the dosage of the sterilizing agent; this also translates into a reduction in plant complexity for the dosing apparatus and for the distribution of a sterilizing agent (with a considerable reduction in the associated costs and a more extensive sterilizing action and a lower consumption of the sterilizing agent). An important object of the present invention is to sterilize not only internal areas of the preform, but also areas of the preform (both internal and external) located near the mouth. The specified technical task and the specified purposes are substantially achieved by a method and an apparatus for forming a container, comprising the technical characteristics set out in one or more of the appended claims.
Ulteriori caratteristiche e vantaggi della presente invenzione appariranno maggiormente chiari dalla descrizione indicativa, e pertanto non limitativa, di una forma di realizzazione preferita ma non esclusiva di un apparato di formatura di un contenitore, come illustrato negli uniti disegni in cui: Further characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become clearer from the indicative, and therefore non-limiting, description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of a container forming apparatus, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:

In the accompanying figures, the reference number 1 indicates an apparatus for forming a container for food products starting from a preform made of plastic material.
The apparatus 1 advantageously comprises a tank 9 from which the preforms are picked up (see Figure 1). Downstream there are means 90 for aligning the preforms in one or more rows. Subsequently there are means 91 for dedusting the preforms. The tank, the alignment means 90 and the dedusting means 91 are of a known type and therefore not further described.
Vantaggiosamente l'agente 15 sterilizzante è attivabile termicamente. The apparatus 1 (see Figure 2b) comprises means 5 for introducing into the preform 10 an agent 15 intended to perform a sterilizing action. Advantageously, the sterilizing agent 15 can be thermally activated. At high temperatures it has a greater sterilizing action. This agent is introduced in the liquid state (even if during the introduction the sterilizing agent could be at least partially nebulized in tiny particles of liquid). Conveniently, the introduction means 5 are located downstream of the alignment means 90. Said introduction means 5 advantageously comprise a metering nozzle 8 of a known type. For example, this metering nozzle 8 could be of the type used to dose / introduce liquid nitrogen into cans. Conveniently the agent 15 is more sensitive to the heating generated by microwaves than the material of the preform 10. For example, the agent 15 comprises hydrogen peroxide. In an alternative solution the agent 15 is water. In this case the sterilizing action is linked to the fact that at high temperatures also the water (possibly in the form of steam) carries out a sterilizing action.
Conveniently, a line of advancement of the preforms develops in correspondence with the nozzle 8, but the nozzle 8 however remains in a predetermined position along the line of advancement. In other words, at least in the preferred solution the nozzle 8 does not move integrally with the preforms 10.
The apparatus 1 also comprises means 6 for directing microwaves towards the preform 10 (see Figures 2c-2g). In this regard, the addressing means 6 comprise a microwave applicator 600 (which by way of example is shaped like an annular element inside which the preform can pass). With reference to Figure 1, the addressing means 6 conveniently lie on a rotating carousel 4, hereinafter also referred to as a rotating heating carousel. In the preferred solution, the rotating carousel 4 comprises a plurality of heating stations each comprising corresponding means 6 for addressing the microwaves. These heating stations are distributed along the periphery of the carousel 4. With respect to a path of advancement of the preform along the apparatus 1, the means 5 for introducing the agent 15 into the preform are placed upstream of the means 6 for directing microwaves towards the preform. The rotating heating carousel 4 also comprises means 2 for gripping the preform 10 which identify, in combination with the preform itself, an annular cavity 3 which externally surrounds the neck 13 of the preform 10 and which is in fluid communication with the interior of the preform. 10 (see figures 2c, 4 and 6). Corresponding gripping means 2 are associated with each heating station. Conveniently, it is the movement of the gripping means 2 that allows the preforms to be approached and moved away from the corresponding microwave addressing means 6. Conveniently, the gripping means 2 comprise a gripper 20 better described below.
The apparatus 1 further comprises a forming station 7 (typically blowing or stretch-blowing). The forming station 7 is located downstream of the microwave addressing means 6 (see Figure 1). Preferably the station 7 lies on a dedicated carousel 40.
The object of the present invention is also a method for forming a container for food products starting from a preform 10 made of plastic material. Conveniently, this method is implemented by an apparatus 1 having one or more of the technical characteristics described above.
The preform 10 comprises an opening 11 and a bottom 12 opposite the opening 11. The opening 11 is located in correspondence with a neck 13 of the preform.
Opportunamente il metodo prevede le seguenti fasi preliminari (si faccia riferimento alla figura 1): The method conveniently provides for the following preliminary stages (refer to figure 1):
-prelevare una successione di preforme 10 da un serbatoio 9; - taking a succession of preforms 10 from a tank 9;
-ordinare le preforme 10 secondo una fila di avanzamento; - arranging the preforms 10 according to an advance row;
-eseguire un procedimento di depolverizzazione. - carry out a dedusting procedure.
The method comprises the steps of introducing into the preform 10 an agent 15 intended to perform a sterilizing action (see Figure 2b). This advantageously takes place after the execution of the preliminary steps indicated above. The step of introducing the agent 15 provides for dispensing the agent 15 by means of a nozzle 8 (advantageously of the type described above). During said step of introducing the agent 15, the nozzle 8 remains stationary while the preforms 10 move underneath.
The agent 15 is introduced into the preform 10 in liquid form. The agent 15, if treated with microwaves, heats up faster than the material of the preform 10. Typically the preforms are usually made of PET. Agent 15 advantageously comprises / is hydrogen peroxide. The latter is about 100-1000 times more sensitive to microwaves than PET. As indicated above, agent 15 could be water.
The method therefore provides for the step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10. In this way, the sudden movement of the dipoles of the sterilizing agent 15 induced by the microwaves causes a much more sudden heating of the sterilizing agent 15 than PET.
The step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 advantageously takes place in a heating carousel 4.
The step of introducing said sterilizing agent 15 takes place before directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 and involves collecting said sterilizing agent 15 on the bottom 12 of the preform 10 (see Figure 2c). Just before the start of the step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10, the sterilizing agent 15 is completely or almost completely on the bottom 12 of the preform 10.
The step of introducing the sterilizing agent 15 into the preform 10 takes place upstream of the rotating heating carousel 4.
The step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 provides that the preform is introduced into the microwave applicator 600.
The step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 therefore provides for (determines) an evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15 (compare Figures 2c and 2d). The step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 first provides for the exposure to microwaves only of the bottom of the preform 10 and of the sterilizing agent 15 collected on the bottom 12. Only then will the remaining parts of the preform be exposed to microwaves. The evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15 by means of microwaves is instantaneous (usually the time required is less than 1 second, even if this depends on the powers involved and on the mass of the sterilizing agent 15). Due to the above, when the evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15 occurs, the preform 10 will be colder than the sterilizing agent 15. Consequently, there is a condensation of the sterilizing agent 15 in contact with the preform 10. The evaporation step of the sterilizing agent 15 collected in the preform 10 therefore causes a part of the sterilizing agent 15 to escape through the opening 11 of the preform 10 and the condensation of the sterilizing agent 15 on an external portion of the preform 10. The upward evaporation step of the sterilizing agent from the bottom 12 of the preform 10 favors an optimal distribution of the same along all the internal walls of the preform and thanks to the annular cavity 3 also in correspondence with the external surface of the neck 13. As previously indicated, the step of introducing the preform into the applicator 600 takes place by first inserting the bottom 12 of the preform (see Figure 2d). In this way the sterilizing agent 15 placed therein can evaporate before a significant heating of other areas of the preform 10 (therefore the evaporated sterilizing agent finds the preform still at a low temperature and this facilitates subsequent condensation). Subsequently, 600 portions of the preform 10 are gradually introduced into the applicator, gradually closer to the opening 11.
The condensation of the sterilizing agent 15 on the preform 10 affects the entire internal surface 101 of the preform 10 and part of the external surface 102 of the preform 10. The sterilizing agent 15 which condenses on the preform is more concentrated (in particular the percentage of the sterilizing component, for example hydrogen peroxide is greater than on the bottom 12 of the preform before evaporation). After the condensation of the sterilizing agent 15 on the outside of the neck, the gripping means 2 and the neck 13 of the preform are introduced into the annular applicator 600 to allow the activation of the sterilizing agent condensed therein (see Figure 2f).
The step of directing microwaves towards the preform 10 further provides for a re-evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15 condensed on the preform 10 (following the previous evaporation). If the sterilizing agent 15 includes hydrogen peroxide, the re-evaporation of the agent determines the activation of the agent 15 and conveniently its destruction. Conveniently, the step of directing microwaves towards the preform 10 provides for the softening of the preform 10 itself for its shaping (there is a significant softening of the preform only after the re-evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15). In this way the microwave energy is used both for the re-evaporation of the sterilizing agent 15 and for the heating of the preform 10 according to a predetermined temperature profile.
The step of directing the microwaves towards the preform 10 is preceded by a step of gripping the preform 10 by means of gripping means 2 acting on the outside of the preform 10 (see Figure 2c). The gripping means 2 identify, in combination with the preform 10 itself, an annular cavity 3. The annular cavity 3 externally surrounds the neck 13 of the preform and is in fluid communication with the interior of the preform 10 to allow the evaporated sterilizing agent 15 to reach the outside of the neck 13.
Conveniently, at least a part of the evaporated sterilizing agent 15 condenses on the outside of the neck 13 of the preform 10.
Usually the outside of the neck 13 comprises a threaded area 17 intended for connection with an external cap and preferably the sterilizing agent 15 evaporated by recondensing is distributed over the whole of said threaded area 17.
The gripping means 2 comprise a gripper 20 which engages under a first protrusion 18 of the preform 10 which extends along an annular line that surrounds the preform 10. In the technical sector the first protrusion 18 is also known as a seal tear ring . Preferably the entire weight of the preform 10 is discharged onto said gripper 20.
Conveniently, the gripper 20 engages in a groove 93 interposed between said first protrusion 18 and a second protrusion 94. This second protrusion 94 also extends along an annular line that surrounds the preform 10. In the technical sector the second protrusion 94 is also known as baga.
The gripping step causes the preform to remain hanging on the gripping means 2.
In the preferred solution, the gripper 20 is made of PTFE. The mechanisms for opening and closing the gripper 20 can be of various kinds. One of these is shown in Figures 3-6 and reference will be made to it by way of example below. Advantageously, the gripper 20 comprises a shell 95 open at one end (typically the lower end) for the insertion of the preform 10. Conveniently, the shell 95 is equipped with a plurality of jaws 96 intended to surround at least a part of the preform 10. The jaws 96 project in a cantilever fashion from a common support 98 forming part of the shell 95. The shell 95 has one or more weakening grooves 99 which advantageously separate the jaws 96 from one another.
The gripping step provides for a retraction of the gripping means 2 (typically a retraction of the shell 95), see figure 4.
The gripping step further comprises introducing the neck 13 of the preform inside a shell 95 defined by the gripping means 2.
In particular, the opening step provides for an elastic deformation of the jaws 96 of the gripper 20. The gripping step also comprises a step of clamping the gripping means 2 on the preform 10 (see figure 6), this clamping action comprising an elastic return of the gripping means 2. Advantageously, the gripper 20 comprises an elastic ring 92 which is in contact with and surrounds the shell 95 (in particular the jaws 96). The step of retracting the shell 95 provides for a deformation of the ring 92 which during the tightening step returns potential elastic energy stored in the retraction step (this expedient allows a greater clamping force of the preform 10).
During the clamping step the jaws 96 are inserted into said groove 93. To allow the relative displacement of the two jaws 96, the gripper 20 can comprise a retractor 97 sliding along a first direction; this sliding spreader 97 is movable between a first position in which it determines a mutual separation of the jaws 96 and a second position in which it allows the jaws 96 to approach. With respect to the shell 95, the spreader 97 in the first position is more raised than in the second position . The retractor 97 can therefore move integrally with the shell 95 to allow a displacement of the gripper 20, but it can also move relative to the shell 95 to allow the retraction and clamping of the jaws 96. Conveniently, the retractor 97 comprises a conical surface operatively coupled with a surface conical surface of the shell 95. The conical surface of the shell 95 has a convergence angle greater than the convergence angle of the conical surface of the shell 95. In order to carry out the step of opening the shell 95, the spreader 97 is raised with respect to the shell 95 and the area of contact between the conical surface of the retractor 97 and the conical surface of the shell 95 increases. In particular, the gripping step provides that the gripper 20 surrounds the threaded area 17 of the preform 10. In a particular construction solution (see figure 2c ) the gripping step provides that a part of the gripper 20 extends inside the pre-hole but 10 (without coming into contact with the preform 10 and in any case without completely obstructing the opening 11). Conveniently, the part of the gripper 20 which extends inside the preform 10 is tapered in order to facilitate the passage of the vaporized sterilizing agent 15 from the inside of the preform 10 to the annular cavity 3. After the softening of the preform 10, which takes place in the heating carousel 4, the preform 10 is subjected to a deformation step for forming the final container. The forming phase takes place mainly by blowing and / or stretch blowing. Typically, the forming step takes place in a forming carousel 40 distinct from the heating carousel 4.
L'invenzione così concepita permette di conseguire molteplici vantaggi. The invention thus conceived allows to achieve multiple advantages.
First of all it allows to have an optimal distribution of the sterilizing agent thanks to the evaporation action starting from the lower bottom of the preform. This optimal distribution is also allowed by the fact that the preform is gripped externally and therefore there are no obstacles for the distribution of the sterilizing agent inside the preform, but neither are there any obstacles that prevent the sterilizing agent from escaping into the annular cavity 3. .
