Abstract
Description
本出願は、2015年5月19日に出願された「ILLUMINATOR」という題名の米国仮特許出願第62/163,724号に対して優先権を主張する。上記文献は、その全体として参照することによって本明細書において援用される。
本発明は、実際の光源とは異なる場所から発するように見える照明を発生させるための光学デバイスに関する。そのような光学デバイスは、必要に応じて実際の物理的光源を配置することが実現困難または不可能である、種々の写真もしくはビデオ捕捉状況に対して有用である。
殆どの写真またはビデオ捕捉状況は、ある形態の照明を要求する。所望の照明は、例えば、カメラに接続されるフラッシュによって供給され得る。しかしながら、多くの状況では、必要とされる照明を提供することは、困難であり得る。
実際の光源とは異なる場所から発するように見える照明を発生させるための光学デバイスが、開示される。デバイスは、対向する第1および第2の平面を有する導波管を含む。光源が、光を導波管に指向させるように位置付けられる。回折光学要素(DOE)が、導波管を横断して形成される。DOEは、全内部反射を介して導波管に入射する光を分配し、光を該第1の面の表面から外へと結合させる。
本発明は、例えば、以下の項目を提供する。

照明器であって、
対向する第1および第2の平面を有する第1の導波管と、
光を前記導波管に指向させるように位置付けられた光源と、
前記導波管を横断して形成された回折光学要素(DOE)であって、前記DOEは、全内部反射を介して前記導波管を横断して前記源から前記導波管に入射する光を拡散し、前記光を前記第1の面の表面から外へと結合させるためのものである、DOEと
を備える、照明器。
(項目2)
前記DOEは、光線がそれに垂直な前記第1の面から出射するように構成されている、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目3)
前記DOEは、光線が前記第2の面に対向する空間内に仮想源を生成するような様式で前記第1の面から出射するように構成されている、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目4)
前記DOEは、光線が前記第2の面に対向する空間内に少なくとも2つの仮想源を生成するような様式で前記第1の面から出射するように構成されている、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目5)
前記光源は、赤外線放射を発生させる、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目6)
前記第2の面は、赤外線放射を反射するコーティングを提供されている、項目5に記載の照明器。
(項目7)
前記光源からの光は、前記導波管にその第1の面を介して指向される、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目8)
前記光源からの光は、前記導波管にその第2の面を介して指向される、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目9)
前記光源からの光は、前記導波管に前記導波管の縁を介して指向される、項目1に記載の照明器。
(項目10)
前記第1の導波管の縁に沿って延在する第2の導波管を含み、前記第2の導波管は、前記光源からの放射を受光し、前記縁に平行な前記第1の導波管の軸に沿って前記光を分配するためのものである、項目9に記載の照明器。
図3は、本発明に従って作成される照明デバイス10の第1の実施形態を図示する。本デバイスは、照明を要求する多種多様な用途において使用され得る。本デバイスは、特に、注視追跡または虹彩識別等の特徴を実装するためのヘッドマウントディスプレイにおいて有用であり得る。
