網膜剥離の病原体である腫瘍や細菌やウイルスは、核酸を持っている。
核酸とは、DNAとRNAのことである。
DNAとRNAは塩基間で水素結合しているが、変性剤を加えてアルカリ性にすると、水素イオンを放出するため変性し、DNAとRNAの塩基間の水素結合が壊れる。
