Description
以下の実施例は、現在最もよく知られている本発明の実施形態を例示するものである。ここで、以下の説明は、本発明の原理の応用を単に例示もしくは説明しているにすぎないことを理解されたい。多数の修正及び変更の施された組成物、方法、及びシステムが、本発明の趣旨及び範囲から逸脱することなく、当業者によって案出されるであろう。添付の特許請求の範囲は、前述の修正及び変更を網羅するものとする。従って、特定のものに関して本発明を説明してきたが、以下の実施例は、本発明の最も実用的且つ好ましい実施形態であると現在考えられているものに関してさらに詳しく説明するものである。
(シリカ1; 0% ACH、0% シラン)
Li2CO3約1.25g及び脱イオン水400gを、1Lのステンレスビーカーに入れた。成分混合及び成分の付加には、高せん断且つ高トルクのエアミキサーを用いた。Cab−O−Sil M−5(表面積200m2/g、カボット社からのヒュームドシリカ)約100gを少しずつ付加し、そして4M HClを連続的に付加してpHを4.0未満に維持した。分散物の粘度は、シリカの付加につれて急速に上昇したが、pHを調節することで劇的に低下した。ヒュームドシリカの添加後、7000RPMの回転子/固定子(Silverson L4RT−W)を用いて、当該分散物をさらに30分間せん断した。Brookfield粘度は約114cpsであり、固形物含量は20wt%であった。
(シリカ2; 10% ACH、0% シラン)
Li2CO3約1.25g、Locron(クララントケミカル(Clarant Chemical)社から入手した、50%アルミニウムクロロハイドロール/水)27.4g、及び脱イオン水346.4gを混合し、その成分の全てが溶解するまで高トルクエアミキサーを用いて撹拌した。次いで、当該混合物にCab−O−Sil M−5(表面積200m2/g、カボット社からのヒュームドシリカ)約125gを少しずつ加え、シリカの好ましくない固化を防止した。全体の添加時間は、約40分であった。次いで、脱イオン水約125mlを加え、7000RPMの回転子/固定子(Silverson L4RT−W)を用いて当該分散物をさらに30分間せん断した。Brookfield粘度は約146cps、pHは3.84であり、固形物含量は約20wt%であった。
(シリカ3; 0% ACH、5% シラン)
実施例1に従って調製したシリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中で、アミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)1.5gと反応させた。シリカ分散物の初期pHは、約3.0であった。アミノシラン反応剤は、5回に分けて等量をシリカ分散物に添加した。分散物は、アミノシラン反応剤の添加により、ほとんど瞬間的に好ましくない固化を呈した。
(シリカ4; 10% ACH、5% シラン)
実施例2に従って調製した表面活性化シリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中でアミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)1.5gと反応させた。シリカ分散物の初期pHは、約3.0であった。アミノシラン反応剤は、5回に分けて等量をシリカ分散物に加えた。分散物は、アミノシラン反応剤の3回目の添加により、好ましくない固化を呈した。
(シリカ5; 0% ACH、5% シラン)
実施例1に従って調製したシリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中で、アミノシラン反応剤を一滴ずつ添加することにより、アミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)1.5gと反応させた。pHを連続的にモニタし、約3〜3.5のpHを維持するよう1M HClで調節した。アミノシラン反応剤を約1/4添加した後、分散物のpHが極めて急速に上昇し、シリカ分散物が固化した。
(シリカ6; 10% ACH、5% シラン)
実施例2に従って調製した表面活性化シリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中で、アミノシラン反応剤を一滴ずつ添加することにより、アミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)1.5gと反応させた。pHを連続的にモニタし、約3〜3.5のpHを維持するよう1M HClで調節した。アミノシラン反応剤の全てを付加した後、安定な低粘度の処理シリカ分散物を得た。
(シリカ7; 10% ACH、3% シラン)
実施例2に従って調製した表面活性化シリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中で、アミノシラン反応剤を一滴ずつ添加することにより、アミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)0.9gと反応させた。pHを連続的にモニタし、約3〜3.5のpHを維持するよう1M HClで調節した。アミノシラン反応剤の全てを付加した後、安定な低粘度の処理シリカ分散物を得た。
(シリカ8; 5% ACH、0% シラン)
Li2CO3約0.625g、Locron(クララントケミカル社から入手した、50%アルミニウムクロロハイドロール/水)13.7g、及び脱イオン水360.1gを混合し、その成分の全てが溶解するまで高トルクエアミキサーを用いて撹拌した。次いで、当該混合物にCab−O−Sil M−5(表面積200m2/g、カボット社からのヒュームドシリカ)約125gを少しずつ添加して、シリカの好ましくない固化を防止した。全体の添加時間は、約40分であった。次いで、脱イオン水約125mlを付加し、7000RPMの回転子/固定子(Silverson L4RT−W)を用いて、その分散物をさらに30分間せん断した。Brookfield粘度は約40cps、pHは3.5であり、固形物含量は約20wt%であった。
(シリカ9; 5% ACH、5% シラン)
実施例8に従って調製した表面活性化シリカ分散物約30gを、磁気撹拌器中で、アミノシラン反応剤を一滴ずつ添加することにより、アミノシラン反応剤(20wt% Silquest A−1120、アミノエチルアミノプロピルトリメトキシシラン/エタノール)1.5gと反応させた。pHを連続的にモニタし、約3〜3.5のpHを維持するよう1M HClで調節した。アミノシラン反応剤の全てを付加した後、安定な低粘度の処理シリカ分散物を得た。
以上調製した4つのヒュームドシリカコーティング組成物を、インクジェットコーティング記録材料として用いた。乾燥重量部ベースの調合物を、以下の表1に示す。
実施例10に従って調製したコーティングの粘度について試験し、以下の表2を得た。
カボットケミカル社のCab−O−Sil LM−130を、ACHとアミノアルキルシルセスキオサンオリゴマー(Gelest Inc.による商標 WSA−9911)の種々の組合せを用いて処理した。詳細な調合物を以下の表3に示す。これらの修飾シリカ組成物を用いて、表4に記載した調合に基づいて、多孔質のインクジェット記録コーティングを調製した。
Claims (17)
- 水性環境においてシリカを処理する方法であって、
a)水性環境にシリカ微粒子を分散させて水性分散物を形成するステップと、
b)表面活性化剤を用いて前記シリカ微粒子の表面の実効電荷を負から正に変換させて、水中に分散している表面活性化シリカ微粒子を形成するステップと、
c)前記表面活性化シリカ微粒子をオルガノシラン反応剤と接触させて、反応剤で修飾され且つ表面活性化されているシリカ微粒子を形成するステップと、
を包含する、方法。 - 前記水性分散物が、前記分散ステップ前に表面活性化剤を含み、且つ前記変換ステップが、前記シリカ微粒子が水性分散物中に少しずつ分散する際に起こる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記表面活性化剤が、前記シリカ微粒子の後に水性分散物に付加される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記分散ステップ及び前記変換ステップが、前記シリカ微粒子及び前記表面活性化剤が同時に水性環境に付加される際に起こる、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記表面活性化剤が、塩化アルミニウム水和物、三価金属酸化物、及び四価金属酸化物から成る群から選択される、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記オルガノシラン反応剤が、アミン含有シランである、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記接触ステップ中に、さらに、pHをモニタし且つ予め定められたレベルに維持するステップを包含する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- インクジェット媒体シートを製造する方法であって、
a)i)有機バインダーと、
ii)請求項1−7の何れか1項に記載のように、反応剤で修飾され且つ表面活性化されたシリカ微粒子と、
を含む多孔質コーティング組成物を調製するステップと、
b)前記多孔質コーティング組成物を媒体基材上にコーティングするステップと、
を包含する、方法。 - 処理シリカ微粒子を含有するコーティングを備える媒体シートであって、
a)i)塩化アルミニウム水和物、三価金属酸化物、四価金属酸化物、及びそれらの組合せから成る群から選択される表面活性化剤によって表面活性化され、且つオルガノシラン反応剤によって反応剤修飾された処理シリカ微粒子と、
ii)前記処理シリカ微粒子と混合されるバインダーと、
を含む多孔質コーティング組成物と、
b)前記多孔質コーティング組成物がその上にコーティングされている媒体基材と、
を含む、媒体シート。 - 前記シリカ微粒子の寸法が、10nm〜500nmである、請求項9に記載の媒体シート。
- 前記オルガノシラン反応剤が、アミン含有シランである、請求項9に記載の媒体シート。
- 前記アミン含有シランが、第四級アンモニウム塩を含む、請求項11に記載の媒体シート。
- 前記媒体基材が、写真ベース又は紙である、請求項9に記載の媒体シート。
- 前記シリカ微粒子が、水性環境中で表面活性化され且つ反応剤修飾される、請求項9に記載の媒体シート。
- 前記表面活性化剤が、塩化アルミニウム水和物である、請求項9に記載の媒体シート。
- 染料移動性が最小限のインクジェット画像を印刷するシステムであって、
a)請求項9−15の何れか1項記載の媒体シートと、
b)前記媒体シート上に印刷されるよう構成された、陰イオン染料着色剤を含有するインクジェットインクと、
を含む、システム。 - 前記処理シリカ微粒子が、塩化アルミニウム水和物、三価金属酸化物、四価金属酸化物、及びそれらの組合せからなる群から選択される表面活性化剤によって表面活性化されており、且つ塩化アルミニウム水和物によって反応剤修飾されている、請求項16に記載のシステム。
