Description
図1はこの発明の第1の実施形態を示す液晶表示装置の分解斜視図である。この液晶表示装置は、反射表示と透過表示とを行うものであり、液晶表示素子1と、前記液晶表示素子1の観察側とは反対側(以下、後側という)に配置され、前記液晶表示素子1へ向けて照明光を照射する面光源18と、前記液晶表示素子1と面光源18との間に、前記観察側から入射し、前記液晶表示素子1を透過した光を前記液晶表示素子1へ向けて反射するための反射手段として配置された光学フィルム27と、前記光学フィルム27の前記液晶表示素子1と対向する側に配置された拡散部材31とを備えている。
図8はこの発明の第2の実施形態を示す液晶表示装置の分解斜視図である。なお、この実施形態において、上記第1の実施形態に対応するものには図に同符号を付し、同一のものについてはその説明を省略する。
図11はこの発明の第3の実施形態を示す液晶表示装置の分解斜視図である。なお、この実施形態において、上記第1の実施形態に対応するものには図に同符号を付し、同一のものについてはその説明を省略する。
図12及び図13は電子機器に実装する液晶表示装置の構成例を示しており、図12は液晶表示装置の斜視図、図13は前記液晶表示装置の側面図である。
図14及び図15は電子機器に実装する液晶表示装置の他の構成例を示しており、図14は液晶表示装置の斜視図、図15は前記液晶表示装置の側面図である。
図16はこの発明の第4の実施形態を示す液晶表示装置の分解斜視図であり、この液晶表示装置は、前記光学フィルム27を、その複数の微小プリズム30の長手方向を、液晶表示素子1の視角の方位Aに対して実質的に直交させて配置したものである。
Claims (5)
- 光の透過量を制御可能な液晶表示素子と、前記液晶表示素子に向けて光を照射する面光源と、を備え、
前記液晶表示素子が、間隔を設けて対向配置されているとともに互いに向き合う面の少なくとも一方に複数の電極が形成された一対の基板と、前記一対の基板を互いの間に挟むように配置された一対の偏光板と、前記一対の基板間の間隙に封入された液晶層と、を有し、
前記面光源が、所定の端面から入射された光を前記液晶表示素子に対向する主面から射出する導光板を有している液晶表示装置であって、
前記液晶表示素子と前記導光板との間に配置された拡散部材と、
透明なフィルム状部材からなり、2つのフィルム面のうちの一方の面に断面形状が二等辺三角形状の複数の細長形状の微小プリズムが互いに平行に配列されることにより前記一方の面が凹凸面として形成され、前記2つのフィルム面のうちの他方の面が平坦面として形成された、第1のプリズムアレイ及び第2のプリズムアレイと、
を備え、
前記第1のプリズムアレイは、前記凹凸面が前記導光板側に向くようにして前記拡散部材と前記導光板との間に配置され、
前記第2のプリズムアレイは、前記凹凸面が前記第1のプリズムアレイ側に向くようにして前記第1のプリズムアレイと前記導光板との間に配置され、
前記第1のプリズムアレイと前記第2のプリズムアレイは、前記第1のプリズムアレイにおける前記微小プリズムの延伸方向が前記第2のプリズムアレイにおける前記微小プリズムの延伸方向と平行であるように配置されていることを特徴とする液晶表示装置。 - 前記面光源は、前記導光板における各端面のうち前記第2のプリズムアレイにおける前記微小プリズムの延伸方向に対して直交する方向に延伸する端面に向けて発光する発光素子を備えていることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記液晶表示素子は、所定の方位が視角方向としてコントラストが最大になるように形成され、
前記第1のプリズムアレイは、前記微小プリズムの延伸方向が前記視角方向に対して平行になるように配置されていることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1のプリズムアレイは前記平坦面が前記拡散部材に隣接するように配置されていることを特徴とする請求項1から3の何れかに記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記面光源は、前記第2のプリズムアレイとの間に前記導光板が介在するように配置された反射膜を有していることを特徴とする請求項1から4の何れかに記載の液晶表示装置。
