Description
<表面被覆切削工具>
本発明の表面被覆切削工具は、基材と、該基材表面に形成された被覆層とを含む。このような構成を有する本発明の表面被覆切削工具は、たとえばドリル加工用、エンドミル加工用、フライス加工用、旋削加工用、クランクシャフトのピンミーリング加工用等の刃先交換型切削チップとして有用に用いることができるが、これらの用途および形状に限定されるものではない。本発明の表面被覆切削工具は、フライス加工や溝付き材の旋削加工など、断続的な荷重が負荷される切削加工用途において特に適している。
本発明の表面被覆切削工具の基材としては、このような切削工具の基材として知られる従来公知のものを特に限定なく使用することができる。たとえば、超硬合金(たとえばWC基超硬合金、WCの他、Coを含み、あるいはさらにTi、Ta、Nb等の炭窒化物等を添加したものも含む)、サーメット(TiC、TiN、TiCN等を主成分とするもの)、高速度鋼、セラミックス(炭化チタン、炭化硅素、窒化硅素、窒化アルミニウム、酸化アルミニウム、およびこれらの混合体など)、立方晶型窒化硼素焼結体、ダイヤモンド焼結体等をこのような基材の例として挙げることができる。
本発明の被覆層は、1層または複数の層により構成される。すなわち、該被覆層は、単一層であってもよいし、複数の層からなる複合層であってもよい。このような被覆層を基材表面に形成することにより、耐摩耗性が向上する。
本発明は、すくい面の中心における被覆層表面の法線と2つの逃げ面が交差する稜とを含む平面で本発明の表面被覆切削工具を切断した断面において、該被覆層のうち、刃先稜線部において最も薄くなる部分の厚みをT1、刃先稜線からすくい面方向に1mm離れた地点における厚みをT2とする場合、T1<T2を満たし、かつ、該被覆層表面において、刃先稜線からすくい面方向に距離Da離れた地点をaとし、逃げ面方向に距離Db離れた地点をbとする場合、該Daは0.05mm≦Da≦0.5mmを満たし、該Dbは0.01mm≦Db≦0.2mmを満たすものであって、地点aから地点bまでの該被覆層における、表面から厚み0.1T1〜0.9T1を占める領域Eの10%以上の領域において、該被覆層を構成する結晶粒の結晶方位のずれが5度以上10度未満となることを特徴とする(図1参照)。これにより、本発明の表面被覆切削工具は、チッピングの起点となる刃先稜線部の膜厚が薄膜化され、かつ被覆層の上部が歪みを生じているため、刃先強度を増強させることができる。その結果、被覆層によって耐摩耗性を向上しつつ、被覆層の脱落やチッピングを防ぐことができ、優れた耐摩耗性と優れた耐欠損性とを得ることができる。
本発明の表面被覆切削工具は、たとえば次のようにして製造することができる。まず、硬質化合物よりなる複数の硬質相と、硬質相同士を結合する結合相とを含む基材を準備する。続いて、この基材に対して、ブラシまたはプラスティックメディアを用いて、上記の刃先稜線部に相当する部位をホーニング処理する。なお、ホーニング処理は、ショットピーニングを用いてアルミナ等の微粒子を基材に衝突させる方法を用いてもよい。
JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard)に規定されるJIS B 4120(1998) CNMG120408の切削工具形状を有する超硬合金母材を基材として準備した。なお、この基材は、後述の各試料(A1〜A6)毎に3個ずつ計18個準備した。また、この基材の組成は、87.0wt%のWCと、7.0wt%のCoと、3.0wt%のTiCと、3.0wt%のNbCとにより構成されている。

JIS(Japanese Industrial Standard)に規定されるJIS B 4120(1998) CNMG120408の切削工具形状を有する超硬合金母材を基材として準備した。なお、このような基材は、後述の各試料(B1〜B5)毎に3個ずつ計15個準備した。また、この基材の組成は、88.0wt%のWCと、5.0wt%のCoと、3.0wt%のTiCと、2.0wt%のTaCと、2.0wt%のNbCとにより構成されている。

前記被覆層表面において、刃先稜線からすくい面方向に距離Da離れた地点をaとし、逃げ面方向に距離Db離れた地点をbとする場合、前記Daは0.05mm≦Da≦0.5mmを満たし、前記Dbは0.01mm≦Db≦0.2mmを満たすものであって、地点aから地点bまでの前記被覆層における、表面から厚み0.1T1〜0.9T1を占める領域Eの10%以上の領域において、前記被覆層を構成する結晶粒の結晶方位のずれが5度以上10度未満となる、表面被覆切削工具。 - 前記Daは、0.05mm≦Da≦0.25mmを満たす、請求項1記載の表面被覆切削工具。
- 前記領域Eの厚みは、0.5T1〜0.9T1である、請求項1または2に記載の表面被覆切削工具。
- 前記被覆層は、複数の層により構成され、
前記刃先稜線部における前記被覆層の構成と前記刃先稜線部以外の領域における前記被覆層の構成とが異なる、請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の表面被覆切削工具。 - 前記T2は、3μm以上30μm以下である、請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載の表面被覆切削工具。
