Claims (4)
- 発熱部材を有する定着回転体と、この定着回転体に圧接してニップ部を形成する加圧回転体とを有し、前記ニップ部に用紙を通過させることにより未転写トナー像を用紙に溶融定着させる定着装置において、
用紙の搬送方向に対して垂直方向の長さを検知するサイズ検知手段と、
前記定着回転体の温度を検知する、回転軸方向に複数設けられた温度検知手段と、
前記定着回転体を送風により冷却する冷却手段と、
前記冷却手段による冷却域を可変する冷却域可変手段と、
前記冷却域可変手段による冷却域及び冷却時間を制御する制御手段とを有し、
前記制御手段は、前記冷却手段で前記定着回転体を冷却する際、前記冷却域可変手段による、非通紙領域全体を冷却する全体冷却モードと、前記温度検知手段で検出した非通紙領域の高温箇所を含む領域を冷却する局所冷却モードとを所定時間毎に交互に繰り返し実施することを特徴とする定着装置。 - 前記制御手段は、前記冷却手段による前記定着回転体の冷却開始後、非通紙領域において、前記複数の温度検知手段による最高検知温度と最低検知温度との差が所定値以上で、且つ、最高検知温度が局所冷却領域内で検知された場合には、局所冷却モードの冷却時間比率を高くし、最高検知温度が局所冷却領域外で検知された場合には、全体冷却モードの冷却時間比率を高くする請求項1記載の定着装置。
- 前記制御手段は、前記冷却手段による前記定着回転体の冷却開始後、非通紙領域において、前記複数の温度検知手段による最高検知温度と最低検知温度との差が所定値以上で、且つ、最高検知温度が局所冷却領域内で検知された場合には、局所冷却モードの冷却領域を狭くし、最高検知温度が局所冷却領域外で検知された場合には、局所冷却モードの冷却領域を広くする請求項1又は2記載の定着装置。
- 前記冷却域可変手段は、前記冷却手段からの送風が吹き出す送風口に、回転軸方向に移動可能に設けられた一対の遮蔽板であって、この一対の遮蔽板を移動させることによって送風の吹き出し位置及び開度を調整する請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の定着装置。
