Description
図3は、画像形成装置10の制御系の一例を示すブロック図である。
クリーニングブレード64でクリーニングするためには、オイルを供給することが有効である。そこで、トナーにはオイル含浸粒子としてのオイル含浸エラストマー粒子Po(図2参照)が添加されている。
帯電装置16は、感光体ドラム14Yの表面を、本実施の形態では、−820Vの電位に帯電する。なお、一般的には、−500V〜−820Vの範囲で選択可能である。
ここで、トナーに添加されているオイル含浸エラストマー粒子Poは、トナーの極性(ここでは、マイナス「−」)とは逆極性(ここでは、プラス「+」)に帯電されている。言い換えれば、オイル含浸エラストマー粒子Poは、現像時に感光体ドラム14の表面の光ビームが照射されず表面電位が−820Vに維持されている非静電潜像領域に供給される。
画像形成ユニット12は、略同一の構成を有しているため、ここでは中間転写ベルト22の走行方向上流側に配設されたイエロー画像を形成する第1画像形成ユニット40Yについて代表して説明する。なお、第1画像ユニット40Yと同一の機能を有する部材に、イエロー(Y)の代わりに、マゼンタ(M)、シアン(C)、ブラック(K)を付した同一参照符合を付すことにより、第2〜第4画像形成ユニット40M、40C、40Kの説明を省略する。
例えば、画像形成処理において、写真画像が連続する、又はチャート画像等の所謂ベタ画像が連続すると、エリアカバレッジが大きい画像が連続しない場合に比べて、オイル含浸エラストマー粒子Poの感光体ドラム14への供給が目標に対して不足することになる。
図7は、メインコントローラ120で実行されるキャリブレーション要否判定制御であり、ステップ200では、ステップ画像形成指示があったか否かが判断され、否定判定された場合はこのルーチンは終了する。
この場合、クリーニングブレード64の上流側で、トナー及びオイル含浸エラストマー粒子Poを感光体ドラム14の軸方向に分散する機構を設けることが好ましい。

Claims (5)
- 現像部と像保持体との電位差に基づき、正極又は負極に帯電された現像剤を像保持体の画像部へ供給して前記現像剤で静電潜像を現像し、当該現像剤の帯電極性とは逆極性に帯電されたオイル含浸粒子を前記像保持体の非静電潜像領域へ供給する現像動作を行う現像手段と、
前記現像動作を行わない間に、前記像保持体の電位を調整して、前記オイル含浸粒子の前記像保持体への供給量を増加する供給量増加手段と、
を有する画像形成装置。 - 前記供給量増加手段が、
現像動作において、像保持体上で現像可能な領域に対する実際に現像された領域の割合が、予め定めたしきい値を超えたとき、次の現像動作までの間に、前記オイル含浸粒子の像保持体への供給量を増加させる請求項1記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記供給量増加手段が、
予め定めた現像動作回数毎に、前記オイル含浸粒子の像保持体への供給量を増加させる請求項1記載の画像形成装置。 - 前記供給量増加手段が、
