Description
例えば人体の表面10から患部組織11までの深さがdであるとき、図1(A)に示すようにそのまま放射線を照射すると、右側のグラフに示すように放射線量のピーク点Pの位置がdよりもΔdだけ下方となり、放射線量は患部組織11で最大とはならないことがある。このような場合、図1(B)に示すように、厚みがΔdで放射線の透過性が人体と等価なボーラス材12を人体の表面10に密着させれば、最大線量となるピーク点Pの位置はΔdだけ上方にシフトし、放射線量を患部組織11で最大とすることができる。このほかボーラス材は人体の凹凸部に貼り付け、線量分布を均一化するために使用されることもある。
本発明のボーラス材は、ポリスチレンをハードセグメントとし、ポリエチレン・ポリブチレン等をソフトセグメントとするスチレン系の熱可塑性エラストマーを基材とする。図2にその構造概念を示す。黒丸で示すのがハードセグメント、バネ状の線で示すのがソフトセグメントであり、これらがブロック状に共重合した構造を持つ。これはポリスチレン-ポリブタジエン-ポリスチレンブロック共重合体の水素添加により得られるSEBS(スチレン-エチレン-ブチレン-スチレン)と呼ばれる材料である。

Claims (3)
- ポリスチレンをハードセグメントとするスチレン系の熱可塑性エラストマー(但し、鉱物油を含有するものを除く)に、屈折率が1.4~1.6の充填材を添加した材料からなることを特徴とするボーラス材。
- 充填剤が、含水ケイ酸又は炭酸カルシウムの粉末であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のボーラス材。
- 充填剤を添加することにより、比重を0.9~1.1の範囲としたことを特徴とする請求項1または2に記載のボーラス材。
