Description
非対称多孔質膜が本明細書に記載されている。非対称多孔質膜は、2つの外層および任意に少なくとも1つの内層を含むか、それらからなるか、または本質的にそれらからなってもよい。0、1、2、3、4、5、6、7、8、9、10、またはそれ以上の内層があってもよい。いくつかの実施形態においては、多孔質膜は、2つの外層からなるか、または本質的にそれらからなっていてよく、内層はなくてもよい。2つの外層のうちの一方の厚さと2つの外層のうちの他方の厚さの比は、1.1:1~10:1、1.1:1~9:1、1.1:1~8:1、1.1:1~7:1、1.1:1~6:1、1.1:1~5:1、1.1:1~4:1、1.1:1~3:1、または1.1:1~2:1であってよい。いくつかの好ましい実施形態においては、多孔質膜の総厚みは、2~30ミクロン、2~25ミクロン、2~20ミクロン、2~15ミクロン、または2~10ミクロンであり得る。いくつかの実施形態においては、多孔質膜の総厚みは、3~12ミクロン、4~12ミクロン、5~12ミクロン、または9~12ミクロンであり得る。いくつかの実施形態においては、外層のうち少なくとも1つは、2~6ミクロンまたは4~5ミクロンの厚さを有する。いくつかの実施形態においては、非対称多孔質膜が電池内で使用されるとき、2~6ミクロンまたは4~5ミクロンの厚さを有する外層がカソードに面して設置される。
屈曲度=x/t (式1)
上記式中、「x」は多孔質膜の開口部または細孔の長さであり、「t」は膜の厚さである。ピンホールの長さは膜の厚さと同一であるため、ピンホールは屈曲度1を有する。細孔の長さが膜の厚さよりも長いため、屈曲した細孔は、図3に示すように1より大きい屈曲度を有する。
本明細書に記載の電池用セパレータは、さほど限定されない。好ましい実施形態において、電池用セパレータは、本明細書に記載の非対称多孔質膜のうち少なくとも1つを含むか、それからなるか、または本質的にそれからなってよい。いくつかの好ましい実施形態において、非対称多孔質膜は、微多孔質非対称膜であってよい。
本明細書に記載の電池は、液体電解質電池またはセル、またはキャパシタもしくはスーパーキャパシタなどの電気化学装置である。いくつかの実施形態において、電池は、アノードとカソードとの間に、本明細書に記載の電池用セパレータを含んでもよい。好ましい実施形態において、電池用セパレータは、本明細書に記載の非対称多孔質膜の少なくとも1つを含み、多孔質膜の最外層のうちの厚い方がカソードに面する。好ましい実施形態において、2つの最外層のうちの薄い方がアノードに面する。本明細書に記載の電池用セパレータが被覆されるとき、リチウムデンドライトを防止するためにコーティングはアノードに面する。
Claims (7)
- 電池用セパレータをアノードとカソードとの間に含み、液体電解質を有する二次電池であって、
前記電池用セパレータは、多孔質膜を含むか、多孔質膜からなるか、本質的に多孔質膜からなり、
前記多孔質膜は、2つの外層と、少なくとも1つの内層と、を含み、
前記2つの外層のうち厚い方と前記2つの外層のうち薄い方との厚さの比が、1.1:1~4:1、1.1:1~3:1、または1.1:1~2:1であり、
前記2つの外層が、ポリプロピレンを含むか、ポリプロピレンからなるか、本質的にポリプロピレンからなり、
前記少なくとも1つの内層が、ポリエチレンを含むか、ポリエチレンからなるか、本質的にポリエチレンからなり、
前記2つの外層のうち厚い方がカソードに面し、前記2つの外層のうち薄い方がアノードに面するように配置されている、二次電池。 - 1~10の内層を含む、請求項1に記載の二次電池。
- 前記多孔質膜が、前記2つの外層のうち少なくとも1つと前記少なくとも1つの内層とを積層すること、または前記2つの外層のうち少なくとも1つと前記少なくとも1つの内層とを共押出しすることを含む方法により形成される、請求項1に記載の二次電池。
- 前記多孔質膜の総厚みが5~30ミクロン、5~20ミクロン、5~15ミクロン、または5~10ミクロンである、請求項1に記載の二次電池。
- 前記電池用セパレータが、Li/Li+に対して4.2以上、Li/Li+に対して4.5以上、またはLi/Li+に対して5.0以上の電気化学的安定電圧を有する、請求項1に記載の二次電池。
- 前記多孔質膜が、前記2つの外層のうちの薄い方に塗布されたコーティング層を含み、
前記コーティングが、セラミックコーティング、ポリマーコーティング、およびシャットダウンコーティングのうち少なくとも1つであり、および/または前記コーティング層が1~5ミクロンの厚みを有する、請求項5に記載の二次電池。 - 前記コーティング層が前記アノードに面している、請求項6に記載の二次電池。
