ン15aに水を満たした第1の製氷皿15を第1の製氷
室8に収納して製氷スイッチ2oを投入すると第1の製
氷皿15の上面からはヒータ11による加熱板12を介
しての加熱作用が開始され、下面からは冷却板13を介
しての冷却即ち凍結作用が開始される。また第1の製氷
皿15は下面を除く外壁を断熱材1゜で覆われているた
め冷凍室3からの冷却影響を受けず、下面から上面へ向
けての一方向の凍結作用が進行する。この凍結作用は冷
却板13を介しての間接的冷却であることに加えて予め
適当な容量に定めたヒータ11による加熱作用が加わる
ため、凍結速度は極めて遅い。即凍結に伴い気体成分が
放出するが上部水中へ拡散していく余裕があるので氷に
気泡が取り込まれずに製氷が進行する。この様に凍結速
度を概ね3 tm / h以下程度に制御すれば、水中
の気体成分は最後に凍結する氷表面より外気に脱気され
るため最終的に生成された氷には気泡がほとんど含まれ
