The present invention relates to a weather-resistant ferrite stainless steel that has excellent rust resistance and is particularly suitable for exterior use. Traditionally, ferrite stainless steels that can be used for decorative purposes include SUS430,
SUS434 is an austenitic stainless steel.
SUS304 is used. SUS304, an austenitic stainless steel, has superior properties such as rust resistance, workability, and weldability compared to SUS430 and SUS434, but it is relatively expensive and has a yellowish surface, making it difficult to be plated. Ferrite stainless steel is preferred because its color tone does not harmonize with other materials. Among ferrite stainless steels, SUS430 is advantageous in terms of price, but its rust resistance is poor and it cannot withstand use as an exterior material.
On the other hand, SUS434 contains Mo and is widely used as it has relatively good rust resistance. Moreover, when exposed to high temperatures such as during welding, Cr carbides are formed at grain boundaries during the cooling process.
A Cr-deficient layer is formed in the vicinity, resulting in deterioration of rust resistance. Furthermore, since it contains about 1% Mo, which is expensive and limited in terms of resources, it has the disadvantage that it is difficult to provide a stable supply industrially. The present invention was developed in consideration of the above-mentioned advantages and disadvantages, and the rust resistance is improved by reducing the impurity elements Mn and S of SUS430 series steel. By adding Cu, Mo, or Ni, and further adjusting the composition if necessary, it has rust resistance equal to or better than SUS304, and is the most cost-effective weather-resistant ferrite stainless steel suitable primarily for exterior use. It was discovered that steel could be obtained. The present invention basically consists of C0.08% or less, Su1.0% or less, Mn0.3% or less, S0.003% or less, Cr10-20%,
Provided is a weather-resistant ferrite stainless steel containing 0.05% or less of N, with the balance consisting of iron and unavoidable impurities. To this basic composition, an additional 0.2 to 0.8%
Provides steel to which Cu, 0.2 to 0.8% Ni, and 0.2 to 0.8% Mo are added singly or in combination. In preferred embodiments, these steels have an amount of C
The amount of N is limited to 0.03% or less, and the amount of N is limited to 0.02% or less. The reasons for limiting the composition of the steel of the present invention are as follows. C, N: In terms of rust resistance, SUS430 or
It is sufficient that it is included in SUS434, but when strong forming processing or welding processing is performed, workability and
From the viewpoint of rust resistance, intergranular corrosion resistance, or toughness of the welded part, the lower the content of C and N, the more preferable. On the other hand, lowering C and N results in an extension of smelting time, leading to an increase in manufacturing costs. This content can be allowed to a certain extent by adding an appropriate amount of Nb, which has the effect of fixing C and N. In the steel of the present invention, C
The content should be 0.08% and N 0.05%, but if workability and corrosion resistance or toughness of the welded part are particularly required, the content should be 0.03% and N 0.02%. Si: Si has a deoxidizing effect, and in the steel of the present invention, it reduces Mn, which has a similar effect as described later, from the viewpoint of rusting resistance, so it is preferable to have a large amount.
However, if there is too much, it will harden the steel and impair its workability.
It is also harmful to hot cracking during welding and to the toughness of the weld zone, so the upper limit is set at 1.0%. Mn: Mn has a strong sulfide-forming ability and combines with S in steel to form MnS, which is unstable in an aqueous solution and easily becomes a starting point for rusting, deteriorating the rusting resistance, so a lower value is preferable. As the Mn content decreases, the pitting corrosion potential becomes more noble and the rust resistance is improved. In order to obtain significant rust resistance, it is necessary to reduce the Mn content to 0.3% or less. S: As mentioned above, S combines with Mn and is harmful to rust resistance, so a lower amount is desirable. In order to obtain significant rust resistance, S needs to be 0.003% or less. For materials used under particularly severe conditions, it is desirable to keep the content at 0.002% or less. Cr: Cr has the effect of imparting general corrosion resistance,
It is an essential element for stainless steel, and at least 10% Cr is required to obtain a passive effect.
Simply increasing Cr alone has a small effect on rust resistance. The steel of the present invention has good corrosion resistance due to Mn and S.
It is characterized in that it is obtained by reducing the corrosion resistance or, depending on the required rust resistance, by adding elements such as Cu and Mo, which have a strong effect of improving corrosion resistance. Cu,
The effect of Mo becomes even greater as the amount of Cr increases. However, an increase in Cr causes the steel to become brittle, making it more likely to cause cracks and rough skin during processing, and impairing its softness. In addition, the increase in Cr makes manufacturing difficult and causes an increase in cost. From these points of view, 20% is the limit. Cu, Ni, Mo: Cu, Ni, and Mo are effective elements for increasing corrosion resistance, and are also effective in improving rust resistance. In the present invention, by reducing the amount of Mn and S, Cu,
The addition of Ni and Mo further increases rust resistance.
Since Co and Mo exhibit a corrosion resistance improving effect in combination with Cr, in order to effectively utilize these elements, it is necessary to
It is desirable to increase the amount of Cr. The effects of Cu, Ni, and Mo appear when they are added in an amount of 0.2% or more, but if the amount of Cu added is too large, it will actually worsen the rust resistance.
Cu and Ni cause stress corrosion cracking susceptibility or precipitate martensite, so the upper limit should be set.
Set at 0.8%. Although Mo improves rust resistance with increasing amount, it is economically expensive and the features of the present invention are impaired, so the upper limit is set at 0.8%. The present invention will be specifically explained below using Examples. Table 1 shows a comparison of the components of the invention steel and comparative steel used in the experiment. These steels were melted by conventional methods and subjected to the following tests. First, steels 1 to 7 and 11 were cut into 10 x 10 mm plates, attached with heat lead wires, and embedded in hardening resin at 30°C.
The pitting potential was measured in 5% NaCl based on JIS-G0577.

The relationship between Mn content and pitting corrosion potential (relative to standard Amane electrode) of steel is shown. The pitting potential is a measure of rust resistance, and as is clear from the figure, the pitting potential increases as the Mn content decreases, with a significant increase at 0.3% or less. Note that the S content of these samples is all 0.01% or less. FIG. 3 shows the relationship between the S content and pitting potential of the steel of the present invention that does not contain Nb and the comparison steel (16Cr steel).
The Mn content of these samples is all below 0.3%. As is clear from the figure, the amount of S is 30ppm, i.e.
A significant increase in pitting corrosion potential is observed at 0.003% or less. From the above results, Mn content is 0.3% or less, S content is 0.003
It is observed that a significant increase in pitting potential is achieved below %. The effect of improving rust resistance by reducing Mn and S is due to the reduction of sulfides, mainly MnS, which are the starting point for rusting. It was already known that reducing S content improves rust resistance, but reducing the S content alone is not sufficient, and as mentioned above, reducing the Mn content at the same time improves the corrosion resistance of the sulfide itself. By doing so, the rusting resistance of the steel is further improved. The object of the invention is thus achieved. Improvement in rust resistance by reducing Mn is related not only to the reduction of sulfides but also to their qualitative changes. When sulfides in steel were observed using EPMA, it was found that by reducing Mn It was observed that the Cr concentration in the steel was increased, and the improvement effect due to the reduction of Mn is thought to be due to the improvement in the corrosion resistance of the sulfide itself. Next, steels 2, 4, 5, and 6 were used as short fence-shaped test pieces of 100 x 150 mm, and the CASS test (acidic saline spray) specified in JISD0201 was conducted for 3320 hours to examine the rusting state.
Figure 3 shows the appearance after the test. In this test,
It was found that as S and Mn were reduced, rusting from the specimen surface decreased, and when Mn was 0.3% or less, S
For steels 5 and 6 with a content of 0.002% or less, there is no rusting from the surface other than the periphery of the specimen. In order to investigate the weather resistance of Steels 12 to 16, the present inventors cut out cold-rolled steel plates of 100 x 150 mm, polished the surface to #400, and then conducted a three-month rough road test on the coast. For evaluation after the test, a transparent plate with 5 mm square grids marked on it was placed on the test piece and observed, (number of rusting grids/
The rusting rate was set as the total number of grids) x 100, and the rusting rate was further multiplied by red rust weighting coefficients of 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03 in descending order of degree of rusting. The results are shown in Table 2. A comparison of Steels 12 and 15 confirmed the effect of lowering Mn and S, and the weather resistance of Inventive Steel 15, which has increased Cr content and added Cu and Ni, was superior to Comparative Steel 17 (SUS304).
