Abstract

PURPOSE:To inject ink droplet having a proper diameter without changing an ink droplet speed, by dividing at least one of the electrodes formed to both surfaces of a piezoelectric element into a plurality of electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Electrodes 1, 2, 3 divided into three are formed to the surface of a piezoelectric element 5 and one common electrode 4 is provided to the rear thereof. When a liquid droplet having a large diameter is desired to be obtained, voltage is simultaneously applied to the electrodes 1, 2, 3. As the diameter of the liquid droplet is reduced, the number of the electrodes, to which voltage must be applied, are reduced like the electrodes 2, 3 and the electrode 3 to make it possible to change the diameter of the ink droplet injected from a nozzle. The deformation of the piezoelectric element 5 is transmitted to a vibration plate 7 and the ink in the ink flow passage 6 formed on a base plate 8 is compressed to generate a liquid droplet.

The inkjet head of the present invention is a drop-on-demand type inkjet head that ejects ink droplets by generating pressure waves in a pressurizing chamber by bending and deforming the piezoelectric element by applying a voltage to the piezoelectric element. The present invention is characterized in that at least one of the electrodes formed in the above structure is divided into a plurality of electrodes.

Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, the electrodes 1 to 3 on the front surface of the piezoelectric element 5 are divided into three parts (FIG. 1(a)), and one common electrode 4 is provided on the back surface thereof (FIG. 1(a)). As explained above, the present invention divides one of the electrodes formed on the piezoelectric element into two or more, and changes the electrode to which voltage is applied depending on the required droplet diameter, thereby increasing the ink droplet speed. This has the effect that ink with an appropriate droplet size can be ejected without changing the size.
