The present invention relates to a method for producing a pencil lead with improved strength, density, and writing properties.More specifically, the present invention relates to a method for producing a pencil lead with improved strength, density, and writability. To provide a method for producing a high-quality pencil lead, especially a lead for a sharp pencil, which has a high density, has a soft touch, has a smooth writing feeling, has excellent brushability, and has little variation in quality and is stable. Traditionally, pencil leads are made by thoroughly kneading graphite and carbon black with clay as a binder, then extrusion molding, drying at a temperature of around 100°C, and then firing at a temperature of around 100°C.
It was then produced by immersion in oil,
With this method, it was difficult to obtain a pencil lead having sufficient strength as an ultra-fine sharp pencil lead. For this reason, recently, instead of clay as a binder,
Various methods have been proposed using thermoplastic polymeric substances such as polyvinyl chloride, pitch, asphalt, cellulose derivatives, gum arabic, and polyvinyl alcohol. However, when producing pencil leads using these polymeric substances, the firing conditions for the molded core composition must be extremely slow at 10 to 30 degrees Celsius per hour between room temperature and 300 to 500 degrees Celsius. However, it is difficult to obtain a core with sufficient strength and density. It's not on. Furthermore, a method has been proposed in which coal tar pitch, asphalt, lignin, synthetic resin, etc. are used as a binder, and a coloring agent and powder of a metal or its carbide or oxide are added thereto. For example, Japanese Patent Publication No. 48-21648 discloses that graphite and fine powder of metal or its carbide or oxide are mixed with a binder that carbonizes by heating and firing, and after molding, the above-mentioned A method for obtaining a pencil lead by firing at a temperature below the melting point of the added metal is disclosed, and according to this method,
The metal powder promotes carbonization of the binder and strengthens the bond between the graphite particles. However, in this method, metal powder is added in the form of a solid, so dispersion and mixing into the resin is not necessarily uniform, and it is necessary to add a fairly large amount of metal powder, several percent. Since it is necessary to fire at a temperature below the melting point of the added metal, the hard metal powder cannot be expected to provide sufficient smoothness when writing, and in order to fully carbonize the binder, it can be used depending on the melting point of the added metal. There were problems such as limited metals. The present inventors have conducted extensive research to overcome the above-mentioned drawbacks, and as a result, by adding and mixing a diluted metal chloride solution in a soluble solvent with a binder, trace amounts of metal can be removed. By adjusting the amount of chloride added, it is possible to create a uniform mixture system with the binder and coloring agent, making the mixing operation easier and more effective. In addition, the pencil lead has greater strength and a greater density of handwriting. discovered that it is possible to produce
The present invention has now been completed. Thus, according to the present invention, a vinyl acetate resin as a binder, a colorant, a plasticizer, and a metal chloride diluted and dissolved in a solvent compatible with the resins are kneaded and then formed into a core shape. 70 ~
A method for producing a pencil lead with improved strength, density and writability, characterized by heating to 120°C to completely remove the solvent and then firing at a temperature of at least 900°C in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. provided. Adding the dilute solution of metal chloride to the binder according to the present invention allows the metal chloride to be uniformly dispersed in the binder, so the amount of metal chloride added can be small and the quality can be uniform. At the same time, the smoothness of writing is not impaired. The presence of this small amount of metal chloride acts as a catalyst for carbonization during heating and firing of the binder, so the maximum temperature during firing can be set at 900 to 1200°C to achieve good carbonization regardless of the melting point of the metal. It is possible and
It improves the carbonization yield of the binder and forms an extremely dark and hard-to-break lead when writing. The metal chlorides used in the present invention include soluble metal chlorides such as zinc chloride, aluminum chloride, platinum chloride, palladium chloride, iron chloride, and copper chloride, which can be used alone or 2
It is also possible to use a combination of more than one species. The amount of metal chloride blended is not strictly limited, but is generally 0.01 to 5 parts by weight, preferably 0.02 to 2 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the binder.
It is advantageous to use parts by weight. According to the present invention, the metal chloride is characterized in that it is dissolved and diluted with a solvent and then blended. Solvents that can be used to dissolve and dilute the metal chloride are generally water, alcohols such as methanol and ethanol, and ketones such as acetone and methyl ethyl ketone, which can dissolve the metal chloride and the binder. Used selectively. The degree of dissolution and dilution of the metal chloride by these solvents is not particularly limited and can be varied over a wide range, but it is generally advantageous to set it to 10 to 1000 times, preferably 50 to 500 times. As the binder in the present invention, vinyl acetate resins are preferably used, and among them, polyvinyl ester type and polyvinyl acetal type are particularly suitable. Polyvinyl ester type resins that can be used include homopolymers of vinyl acetate or at least 50 weight percent of vinyl acetate, preferably 55 weight percent or more and not more than 50 weight percent of other monopolymers copolymerizable with vinyl acetate. , preferably up to 45 weight percent. Therefore, vinyl acetate-based resins that can be suitably used in the present invention include, for example, polyvinyl acetate ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, acrylic ester/vinyl acetate copolymer, vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate copolymer, etc. can be mentioned. Examples of the polyvinyl acetal type resin include polyvinyl formal resin, polyvinyl butyral resin, and polyvinyl acetoacetal resin, of which polyvinyl butyral resin is preferred. As the colorant, those commonly used as coloring components for pencil leads are used, such as graphite, carbon black, molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, etc., with graphite being particularly preferred. Further, the plasticizer used in the present invention mainly functions as a lubricant as a molding aid, and includes liquid plasticizers such as DOP, DBP, and BPBG, paraffin wax, montan wax, beeswax, spermaceti wax, and carnauba wax. Examples include solid waxes, higher fatty acids such as stearic acid, palmitic acid, and myristic acid, and higher alcohols such as stearyl alcohol and cetyl alcohol, and these may be used alone or in combination of two or more. The blending ratio of the binder, coloring agent, and plasticizer is not limited to a narrow range and can be varied widely depending on the handwriting density required for the final pencil lead, the application, etc., but generally the binder The amount of the colorant is 50 to 400 parts by weight, preferably 70 to 320 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight.
parts by weight, the plasticizer is 2 to 50 parts by weight, preferably 5 to 50 parts by weight.
Advantageously, amounts in the range of 45 parts by weight are used. The binder, diluted metal chloride solution, colorant, and plasticizer are thoroughly mixed by a method known per se, for example, using a kneader, roll mill, or the like. The core material composition thus kneaded is molded into a core shape (diameter: 0.2
~1.0mm). The molded core is unbent at 70-120℃
After the mixed solvent is completely removed at a temperature of 100°C, it is fired at a temperature of at least 900°C, preferably 950 to 1200°C, in a non-oxidizing atmosphere. The fired pencil lead thus obtained can then be subjected to a conventional oil immersion treatment. Examples of oils that can be used for this oil immersion treatment include oils that are liquid at room temperature, such as whale oil, castor oil, lard, spindle oil, liquid paraffin, and silicone oil; Examples include those mixed with solid waxes as appropriate. According to the method of the present invention described above, it is easy to operate, has extremely high strength, has a soft touch, has excellent writing properties with a smooth writing taste, has little wear, has a high writing density, and can be written uniformly and stably. It is possible to easily produce high-quality pencil lead with high quality. The pencil lead produced according to the invention is particularly suitable as a sharp pencil lead, but also has a wide range of uses as a regular pencil lead. Next, the present invention will be further explained with reference to Examples. Example 1 Vinyl acetate resin...250 parts by weight (hereinafter weight parts are abbreviated) (Polyvinyl acetate 50% ethyl acetate solution) (as solid content) Wax paraffin wax...60 Stearic acid...20 Aluminum chloride...See Table 1 below Amount shown: Graphite...670 Ethanol...100 Dissolve aluminum chloride in ethanol, add the above vinyl acetate resin, wax and graphite to it, thoroughly knead with a kneader and three-roll mill, and then form into a thin wire with an extruder. do. After heating and drying the molded core composition at 65℃ for 96 hours, it was packed in a graphite crucible and sealed, and the heating rate was set per hour.
It was heated at 200°C to 1000°C and fired at 1000°C for 1 hour. The obtained core was left to cool and immersed in liquid paraffin heated to 100°C for 60 minutes to perform oil immersion. The bending strength of the obtained pencil lead (diameter: 0.57 mm),
The reflectance, friction coefficient, pencil hardness and writability are as shown in Table 1 below. In this specification, the bending strength and friction coefficient are the values measured according to JIS-S-6019-1972, and the reflectance and pencil hardness are the values measured according to JIS-S-6005-1963.
