The present invention provides 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,
This invention relates to a method for producing 2'-disulfonic acid or a salt thereof.
More specifically, the compound represented by the formula () (4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid) in the form of a free acid is The present invention relates to a process for producing 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid or a salt thereof, which comprises oxidizing it in an alkaline aqueous medium in the presence of a lithium compound and optionally a catalyst. 4,4'-diamino obtained by reducing 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid or a salt thereof (hereinafter referred to as 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids) stilbene-2,
2'-Disulfonic acid is produced on a large scale as an intermediate for dyes and pigments, including fluorescent brighteners. Conventional methods for producing 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids, such as "Dye Chemistry" by Yutaka Hosoda (Gihodo) P511 or JP-A-57-
The method described in No. 38764 had the drawbacks of very low yield per reactor volume and long reaction time. That is, in both the method described in Dye Chemistry and the method described in JP-A-57-38764, 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2' is used in an amount of about 6% (by weight) of the reaction solution. - Only disulfonic acids can be obtained. Moreover, both require a reaction time of 18 to 20 hours. On the other hand, according to the method described in JP-A No. 56-29561, the target product was obtained in an amount corresponding to about 15% of the amount of the reaction solution, and the reaction time was shortened to about 6 hours. Although this method is somewhat improved in terms of yield per volume and shortening of reaction time, on the other hand, it is inevitable that the cost will be high because it requires the use of organic solvents such as dimethylformamide and methanol. Furthermore, it has industrial disadvantages, including the operationally dangerous step of mixing an oxidizing agent and an organic solvent, and the need for special consideration since the presence of water is avoided during the reaction. In an aqueous medium, we found that 4,
We have been conducting intensive studies to find an industrially advantageous production method that dramatically increases the yield of 4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids and shortens the reaction time. In the oxidation of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid in an alkaline aqueous medium, the yield of 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids per volume is low because of the raw material 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfone. The water solubility of acids, intermediate products such as 4,4'-dinitrodibenzyl-2,2'-disulfonic acid, and target products such as 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids is This is thought to be due to the low oxidation reaction, but by coexisting a lithium compound in the reaction system in the oxidation reaction, the amount of raw material charged per solvent used can be dramatically increased, and the oxidation reaction rate can also be greatly improved. They found this and completed the present invention. In our research, we have not found any example of oxidizing 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid in the presence of a lithium compound. In carrying out the present invention, in addition to 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid, K, Na,
Alkali or alkaline earth metal salts such as Mg and Ca are used, and water is used as the solvent, but it is also possible to mix some organic solvents. The amount of water used is 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid.
The amount is about 0.8 to 20 times (weight ratio), preferably 1 to 10 times. The lithium compound used is one that can be added to an aqueous solution of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid to form a lithium salt, and specifically, oxides such as lithium oxide, hydroxides such as lithium hydroxide, etc. Examples include salts such as lithium carbonate and lithium acetate, oxyacid salts such as lithium hypohalite, and halides such as lithium chloride and lithium bromide. In this oxidation reaction, the presence of hydroxide ion [OH - ] is essential, but hydroxides such as sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, calcium hydroxide, etc. or oxidation that immediately becomes hydroxide in water are essential. Magnesium, calcium oxide, etc. are used. Note that when lithium oxide or lithium hydroxide is used as the lithium compound, the above-mentioned hydroxide can be omitted. The amount of the hydroxide used is preferably in the range of approximately 0.3 to 5 mol/. The amount of the lithium compound used is preferably 5 mol % or more based on the total alkali or alkaline earth metal in the reaction system. Although the oxidation reaction of the present invention proceeds without a catalyst, it is also possible to use a catalyst in order to proceed with the reaction more efficiently. Manganese compounds are most suitable as catalysts, and others such as Co, Fe, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cr, Ce,
Ru, Rh, Ti, V, Zr, Pb, Th, Cu, Ag,
Transition metal compounds such as Mo and W can also be used alone or in combination. The amount used is approximately 1×10 -4 ~1×
It is in the range of 10 -1 mol/. Note that activated carbon, silica gel, alumina, urea, phase transfer catalysts, ion exchange resins, etc. are also effective as catalysts. Examples of the oxidizing agent used include molecular oxygen-containing gases, hypohalites, ozone, peroxides, etc., but molecular oxygen-containing gases, particularly oxygen gas or air, are preferred for economic reasons. The reaction temperature is 20-100°C, preferably 40-85°C. The reaction can be carried out under normal pressure or increased pressure, either continuously or batchwise. Reaction time is 4-10
The reaction time can be significantly shortened compared to conventional methods. After the oxidation reaction is complete, water is added to the reaction system to dissolve the 4,4'-dinitrotoluene-2,2'-disulfonic acids, and carbon dioxide, alkali carbonate or alkali bicarbonate is added to precipitate lithium ions as a dissolvable salt. After separation, the target product 4,4'-dinitrotoluene-
Obtain 2,2'-disulfonic acids. In order to explain the present invention more clearly, the present invention will be explained in detail. An alkali-resistant reactor is charged with water, 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid or a salt thereof, and a catalyst if necessary, and a lithium compound is added while contacting with an oxidizing agent. After sufficient stirring, hydroxide is added. (When lithium hydroxide is used as the lithium compound, there is no need to newly add hydroxide.) The hydroxide may be added in the form of powder, solid, or an aqueous solution thereof. Thereafter, the mixture is stirred and reacted at the above-mentioned reaction temperature, but gradually raising the temperature from a low temperature gives better results than raising the temperature rapidly. Reaction time is 4-10
Time is enough. When the reaction was followed by liquid chromatography, the intermediate 4,4'-dinitrodibenzyl-2,
The production of 2'-disulfonic acid is much smaller than in the conventional method, suggesting that the method is also mechanically different from the conventional method. After the reaction is completed, the reaction solution is diluted with water until the target 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acid is completely dissolved, and then heated with carbon dioxide, alkali carbonate, or alkali bicarbonate in an oxidizing atmosphere. etc. are added. As the carbon dioxide gas, dry ice, carbon dioxide gas in a cylinder, etc. can be used. As the alkali carbonate, sodium carbonate, potassium carbonate, ammonium carbonate, and as the alkali bicarbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, ammonium hydrogen carbonate, etc. can be used. These are used in an amount sufficient for the lithium ions present in the system to form a sparingly soluble salt. After stirring for about 30 minutes, the hardly soluble lithium salt is removed. In general, the separation efficiency of lithium salts is higher at higher temperatures. Lithium recoveries of about 75% or more are achieved with this method.
The liquid from which the lithium salt has been separated is made acidic, and then a method such as salting out is applied to extract the desired 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonic acids. The effects of the present invention will be shown in comparison with the conventional method.

いた。[Table] Next, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to examples, but the present invention is not particularly limited to these. Example 1 4-nitrotoluene in a four-necked glass flask
2-sulfonic acid 150g manganese acetate tetrahydrate 0.2g,
640 g of water was added and stirred while blowing air at a rate of 1.6/min. In this, lithium hydroxide monohydrate
95.5g was added gradually. After addition, raise the temperature to 50
℃. The reaction was carried out at 50 to 55°C for 2 hours, and then gradually raised to 70°C in 4 hours while blowing air. Thereafter, the reaction solution was transferred to a beaker, hot water was added thereto, and the mixture was stirred at 65 to 70° C. while introducing air. 121 g of sodium carbonate (anhydrous) was added and stirred for 30 minutes. Lithium carbonate precipitated and was separated. 200ml of crystals
I washed it with hot water. The liquids were combined and the pH was adjusted to 3 with concentrated hydrochloric acid. Add 190g of salt to this and cool it down 4.
Sodium 4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate was separated. After washing with about 400 ml of 15% saline and drying, 152 g of crystals were obtained, and the purity by liquid chromatography was 99%, and the purity by reduction analysis using TiCl 3 was 92.3%. The yield of sodium 4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate in terms of purity was 85.5%. It has been confirmed that sodium 4,4'-diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate obtained by reducing this can be used satisfactorily as an intermediate for fluorescent dyes. The recovery rate of lithium recovered as lithium carbonate was 82.5%, and the sodium content in this was 0.23% as a result of atomic absorption spectrometry. Example 2 The reaction was carried out in the same manner as in Example 1 except that the amount of lithium hydroxide/monohydrate used was 103.7 g. After the reaction, 264 g of soda carbonate (anhydrous) was used to recover lithium. The same treatment as in Example 1 was performed. 146 g of sodium 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate was obtained, with a purity of 99% by liquid chromatography and 90.9% by reduction analysis with TiCl3 . The yield of the target product using the latter purity was 80.9%. The recovery rate of lithium was 82.8%. Example 3 A four-neck flask was charged with 200 g of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid and 600 g of water. While stirring, 0.2 g of manganese acetate tetrahydrate was charged and dissolved.
Stir while blowing air at a speed of 4.8/min.
At 30°C, 98.3 g of lithium hydroxide monohydrate was gradually added. After the completion of the charging, the temperature was raised to 46°C, and the reaction was continued for 6.5 hours while gradually increasing the temperature from 46°C to 64°C. After the reaction, cool to 55℃ and transfer to a beaker.
Add 1.3 parts of water to make a total volume of about 2.1 parts, and heat at 50-55℃.
157g of sodium carbonate was added. Stir at 50 to 55℃ for about 30 minutes while introducing air, and remove the precipitate at 55℃.
Separated by °C. (This precipitate is lithium carbonate, and as a result of atomic absorption spectrometry after drying, the sodium content was
It was found that it contained 0.18%. The recovery rate of lithium was 74.9%. ) Add sulfuric acid to the solution to pH 3
4, 250 g of common salt was added to make the total amount 2.5, and the precipitated crystals were separated and washed with a 13% saline solution. After drying, 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-
225 g of yellow crystals of sodium 2,2'-disulfonate were obtained. The purity of this product was 83.95% as determined by nitro group reduction analysis, and the yield in terms of purity was 86.5%. In liquid chromatography analysis, 100%
It had a purity of Sodium 4,4'-diaminostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate obtained by reduction had sufficient purity for use in the production of fluorescent dyes. Example 4 75 g of 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid, 0.1 g of manganese acetate, and 400 g of water were placed in a four-necked flask and dissolved. Here is lithium hydroxide monohydrate
After 14.5 g was charged and stirred for a while while blowing air at 4/min, 18 g of caustic soda was gradually added. 3 hours at 60℃ while blowing air, 4.5 at 68℃
Allowed time to react. After the reaction was completed, lithium carbonate was recovered by the same post-treatment as in Example 3, and 74 g of yellow crystals of sodium 4,4'-dinitrostilbene-2,2'-disulfonate were obtained. Purity-based yield based on nitro group reduction analysis: 80.7
%, and the purity was 99% by liquid chromatography. Example 5 4-nitrotoluene-2-sulfonic acid was oxidized in exactly the same manner as in Example 3. After the reaction was completed, the reactor was cooled to 60°C, and carbon dioxide gas was blown into the reactor at a rate of 2/min. After blowing for about 1 hour, the crystals formed were removed by heating at 60°C. After washing the crystals with about 200 ml of hot water, 100 g of sodium carbonate was added at 60° C. while blowing air into the solution, and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. The precipitated crystals were removed by excess. (The total recovery rate of lithium carbonate was 87.0%.) After adding sulfuric acid to the solution and adjusting the pH to 3, 125 g of common salt was added and the crystals were dried. -Yellow crystals of sodium disulfonate
221g was obtained. As a result of reduction analysis of the nitro group, the purity was 88.8%, and the yield in terms of purity was 89.8%. The purity determined by liquid chromatography was 100%, and the quality was sufficient to be used as a raw material for producing fluorescent dyes.
