With the aim of realizing a highly reliable magnetic tape device in which the lifespan of the magnetic tape and magnetic head is significantly extended, air is discharged from an air outlet provided on the sliding surface of the magnetic tape. In a magnetic head that levitates a magnetic tape, protrusions are provided on both sides of the magnetic tape at the position of the air outlet on the sliding contact surface of the magnetic tape at intervals equal to the width of the magnetic tape, and the magnetic tape is run within the protrusions. Configure it to do so.

It is something to keep. The magnetic head 1 has a head gap on its sliding surface with the magnetic tape 5, and is used to write/read data. In this case, the contact pressure between the magnetic tape 5 and the magnetic head 1 must be maintained at a predetermined value, and the contact pressure maintains a constant tape tension applied to the magnetic tape 5 from a tape drive system (not shown). This is ensured by keeping the

The magnetic tape 5 is made to levitate by blowing out air. (2) When winding up the magnetic tape 5 at high speed (fast forward) or rewinding it at high speed (fast rewind), air is discharged from the air outlet 2 to make the magnetic tape 5 levitate.

To eliminate stress caused by friction caused by the magnetic tape 5 slidingly contacting the magnetic head 1 when reading is not performed, that is, when the magnetic tape 5 is wound at high speed (fast forward) or rewinded at high speed (fast rewind). It's for a reason.

) is a front view of the magnetic head, (b) is a sectional view along A-A in (a), and (c) is a side view along B-B in (a). As shown in the figure, by discharging air 8 from the air discharge port 2, an air layer is formed between the magnetic tape 5 and the magnetic head 1, and the magnetic tape 5 floats. ? Problems to be Solved by the Invention] The above-described magnetic tape air levitation method is widely used because it can effectively eliminate static friction. However, when the magnetic tape runs at high speed, that is, when winding at high speed (fast forward) or rewinding at high speed (fast rewind),
The magnetic tape may vibrate, and the vibration may apply stress to the magnetic tape itself, and in severe cases may cause damage to the magnetic tape. The vibration of the magnetic tape occurs because the flow of air discharged from the air outlet is disturbed when the magnetic tape runs at high speed, and a typical example of vibration will be explained.

FIG. The vibration state (1) in Fig. 6 is caused by the magnetic tape 5 floating in an arched shape, and is caused by the magnetic tape 5 repeating the states shown in Fig. 6 (a) and (b). do. The reason why the magnetic tape 5 floats in an arched shape is that the air 8 discharged from the air discharge port 2 tends to flow toward the sides of the magnetic tape 5, that is, in the width direction.

The discharged air 8 flows as shown, and the bow shape of the magnetic tape 5 is reversed. In this way, the magnetic tape 5 repeats the states (a) and (b), causing vibration.

In the magnetic head 1, only the contact portion 9 wears rapidly, causing uneven wear.

flows out rapidly from one side of the magnetic tape 5, and as a result, the state of the magnetic tape is as shown in Figure (b).
In this way, the magnetic tape 5 repeats the states (a) and (b), causing vibration. When such vibration occurs, the side of the magnetic tape 5 opposite to the air discharge side comes into contact with the magnetic head 1 at the contact point 9. Therefore, as in the vibration state (1), stress and damage are applied to the magnetic tape 5, and only the contact portion 9 of the magnetic head 1 is rapidly worn, resulting in uneven wear.

In the magnetic head 1 which discharges air from the air outlet 2 provided on the magnetic tape sliding contact surface 11 to levitate the magnetic tape, the position on both sides of the magnetic tape at the position of the air outlet on the magnetic tape sliding contact surface 11 Convex portions are provided at intervals equal to the width of the magnetic tape, and the magnetic tape is run within the convex portions.

In the magnetic head of the present invention, guides 10 are provided on both sides of the magnetic tape at the two positions of the air discharge ports on the magnetic tape sliding surface 11. Therefore, the discharged air 8 flowing out from the sides of the magnetic tape 5 is reduced and flows in the length direction of the magnetic tape 5 as shown in FIG. Therefore, the discharged air 8 discharged from the air discharge port 2 is uniformly distributed over the magnetic tape 5, and the magnetic tape 5 floats parallel to the magnetic head 1. Therefore, vibration of the magnetic tape due to discharged air does not occur, and stress and damage to the magnetic tape and uneven wear of the magnetic head can be eliminated.

The magnetic head of this embodiment has a guide 10a provided on the magnetic head 1 located at the air outlet 2. The height of the air outlet 2 is increased, and the height of the
This is what I did. By providing the guide 10a having such a shape, the discharged air 8 discharged from the air discharge port 2 flows along the tape running direction, and at the same time, as the height of the convex portion of the guide 10a decreases, , it gradually begins to flow out from the sides of the magnetic tape, and the floating state of the magnetic tape becomes extremely stable. (Effects of the Invention) As described above, according to the present invention, the air discharged from the air discharge port flows in the length direction of the magnetic tape, the floating state of the magnetic tape is stabilized, and the vibration of the magnetic tape is reduced. Therefore, stress and damage to the magnetic tape and uneven wear of the magnetic head are eliminated, the life of the magnetic tape and the magnetic head is significantly extended, and the reliability of the magnetic tape device can be dramatically improved.
