However, this polyphenylene ether resin emits a strange odor during granulation or injection molding that involves melting operations, which has a significant negative impact on the working environment. It also gradually emits a strange odor even at room temperature, making it unpleasant when used in packaging materials, etc. The drawback is that it traps odors and contaminates the contents.

A method has been proposed in which a specific amine is used as a catalyst component to improve the off-odor in polyphenylene ether resins (Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 131022/1982), but this method also does not completely remove the off-odor. It is not possible.

Means for Solving the Problems As a result of extensive research to develop a polyphenylene ether resin composition that does not have a bad odor, the present inventor has found that polyphenylene ether resin or a mixture of the same and a styrene resin contains a specific alumina. It was discovered that the objective could be achieved by blending a silica-based inorganic compounding agent or a magnesia-silica-based inorganic compounding agent in a predetermined ratio, and based on this knowledge, the present invention was completed.

Effects of the Invention In the production of polyphenylene ether, a combination of a metal salt and various amines is used as a catalyst. The removed amine is incorporated into the polyphenylene ether, and the amine component is removed by melt processing or heat at room temperature. This release is thought to be the cause of the off-odor of the polyphenylene ether resin.

In the present invention, the alumina-silica-based inorganic compound and the magnesia-silica-based inorganic compound used as component (B) have a large specific surface area and excellent adsorption performance.
It is believed that when these are melt-kneaded with a polyphenylene ether resin, the inorganic compounding agent effectively adsorbs the amine component, prevents the amine component from being released into the surroundings, and prevents the generation of off-flavors.
