Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform an easy and enough molding operation without spoiling adhesive property and the strength of a plaster cast by applying a substance for providing lubricating properties to an end which is an end of a bandage in the continuous direction and is a winding-up end side when the bandage is used. CONSTITUTION:A substance for providing lubricating properties is applied to at least part of an end of a plaster cast bandage. As such a substance for providing lubricating properties, a silicon compd. such as polysiloxane and org. modified polysiloxane are cited. A non-ionic surface active agent with a hydrophilic group, e.g. a polyethylene glycol ester type non-ionic surface active agent etc., can be also used. The silicon compd. and the non-ionic surface active agent are each used alone, but it is pref. that both compd. are used in a mixed state. In addition, when the non-ionic surface active agent is solid, it is pref. that this is ground and the part thereof which is 50 mesh pass or finer is used. It is thereby possible to perform easily a molding operation with out such a condition that adhesive properties between tapes and the strength of a plaster cast obtd. after molding are insufficient.

Cast tapes, commercially available as orthopedic cast tapes, are manufactured by impregnating sheets of glass fiber or other fibers with a water-curable resin. When such a cast tape is taken out of its packaging and immersed in water, the water-curable resin prepolymer reacts with the water, causing the adhesive to develop and the resin to harden. Therefore, the tape must be wrapped during the work and during the molding work after the work is completed.
Due to this tackiness, the surface of the tape wound overlappingly does not slip, making it difficult.

In addition to applying it directly to the surface of the cast tape, it can also be applied by coating or impregnating the core material for winding the tape with a lubricating substance, and then winding the tape onto the core material. This can also be done by allowing the lubricity-imparting substance to migrate into the tape while it is stored in the tape.
