The present invention relates to a heat-resistant composite material with excellent heat shock resistance and a method for producing the same. For details, silicon carbide (SiC) whiskers and one or more types of Mo,
The present invention relates to a heat-resistant composite material composed of W, B, and C that has excellent heat shock resistance, and a method for producing the same. The silicon carbide (SiC) whiskers constituting the composite material of the present invention have, for example, the following characteristics. Diameter 0.1 to 1.0 μm Length 50 to 200 μm Aspect ratio 50 to 300 Density 3.17 g/cm 3 Tensile strength 300 to 1400 Kgf/mm 2 The present inventors have developed a SiC whisker with excellent properties such as tensile strength. After intensive study on composite materials using this and metal components, we found that a predetermined amount of SiC whiskers contains one or more types of Mo, W,
It has been discovered that a new composite material made by combining B and C has excellent heat resistance and heat shock resistance. Furthermore, the heat-resistant composite material of the present invention has excellent heat resistance, excellent heat shock resistance, and also excellent heat resistance and high temperature corrosion resistance, so it is particularly suitable for use in engine combustion chambers, especially diesel engine swirl combustion chambers. It turns out that it can be used. In other words, in recent years, the advantages of diesel engines have been attracting attention in terms of fuel consumption efficiency and exhaust gas regulations, and when looking at their use in automobiles, they have traditionally been used mainly in large trucks, but they are also being used in passenger cars. It is starting to be installed. However, diesel engines for passenger cars are inevitably required to be compact and rotate at high speeds, which inevitably results in a large heat load around the combustion chamber. In combustion chambers with whirlpool combustion chambers, which have been widely adopted in recent years, high-temperature, high-pressure combustion gas blows through the combustion chamber at high speed, especially near the nozzle of the combustion chamber, resulting in localized high temperatures and significant damage. It is also subject to corrosive effects caused by impurities, particularly sulfur and vanadium, contained in diesel fuel and kerosene. With the introduction of turbochargers that meet the recent demands for improved output performance, engine combustion conditions have become even more severe, and the materials that make up the combustion chamber have extremely high heat resistance and high-temperature corrosion resistance. It became like being demanded.
As a material for the swirl combustion chamber of diesel engines,
Conventionally, heat-resistant steels such as SUH3 and SUH661 were used.
Nickel-based heat-resistant alloys such as Nimocast 80 have been used, but all of these materials have insufficient heat shock resistance (judged by the presence or absence of cracks, which can also be called heat crack resistance), which determines their service life. There was also a problem with the high-temperature corrosion resistance of the tip of the nozzle, which was a constraint in fully demonstrating the performance of diesel engines. The present invention relates to a heat-resistant composite material that can be suitably used as a general heat-resistant member due to its characteristics and can solve the above-mentioned problems, and has succeeded in greatly improving heat crack resistance and high-temperature corrosion resistance. The present invention resides in a heat-resistant composite material containing 50 to 98% (by weight, the same hereinafter) of silicon carbide whiskers, with the remainder consisting of one or more of Mo, W, B, and C, and having excellent heat shock resistance. The present invention also resides in a method for suitably producing a heat-resistant composite material with excellent heat shock resistance, which is characterized by containing 50 to 98% silicon carbide whiskers, with the remainder being
A blend consisting of one or more of Mo, W, B, and C at a temperature of 900°C in vacuum or inert gas.
There is more to sintering. As mentioned above, the composite material of the present invention contains 50 to 98% silicon carbide whiskers, one or more types of Mo, W, B,
The balance consists of C, that is, 2 to 50%. These Mo, W,
Regarding the content of B and C, it is necessary to take into consideration the reduction in oxidation resistance especially at high temperatures and the improvement or reduction in the toughness of SiC as a heat-resistant composite material. In the case of a composite with Mo or (and) W, the content of Mo and W is 50%
When it exceeds 2%, the oxidation resistance of the composite material at high temperatures decreases, while when it is less than 2%, the toughness of SiC is not improved. Preferably 10 to 30 for Mo and W
%. In case of combination with B or (and) C,
When the content of B and C exceeds 50%, the oxidation resistance at high temperatures decreases significantly, and conversely, the toughness of SiC begins to decrease, while when the content of B and C exceeds 2%, the toughness of SiC does not improve. Can not. In the case of B and C, it is preferably 10 to 25%. Mo, W, B, and C are considered to play the role of binders in the present invention, and improve the formability of SiC. That is, the present invention does not require a binder such as plastic, which is normally used when combining SiC with other metals.
A heat-resistant composite material with excellent heat shock resistance can be obtained by blending SiC with Mo, W, B, and C powders and sintering, preferably by the above manufacturing method. In the process of establishing the present invention, the combination of refractory metals other than Mo and W, such as Fe and Ti, with SiC was investigated, but it was found that Fe and Ti react with C and are therefore undesirable. At this point Mo, W is C
Not only was the heat-resistant composite material obtained excellent in heat shock resistance, heat resistance, and high-temperature corrosion resistance, which was preferable because no reaction occurred. Of course, a combination of SiC and B or (and) C is also preferable. From the above, it is appropriate that the content of SiC is 50 to 98%. Mo, W, B, C mentioned above
In addition to the reason for limiting the content of SiC, if SiC exceeds 98%, there will be difficulties in forming, making it impossible to obtain a composite material with high strength. Next, a supplementary explanation will be given of the above-mentioned manufacturing method of the composite material of the present invention. When obtaining a composite material by the production method of the present invention, it is necessary to press-sinter the blend in vacuum or in an inert gas. When carried out in the atmosphere
Mo, W, B, and C decompose and the desired composite material cannot be obtained. Further, press sintering must be performed at a temperature of 900°C or higher. If the temperature does not exceed 900°C, high sintering strength cannot be obtained. There is no particular upper limit to the temperature, and the higher the temperature, the easier it is to obtain a product with higher sintering strength. Usually 900-1250℃. To illustrate a preferred embodiment of the manufacturing method of the present invention, a predetermined amount of SiC whiskers is thoroughly loosened, and a predetermined amount of powder of one or more of Mo, W, B, and C is thoroughly blended into the whisker. Place in a mold and cold form. Incidentally, the blended product as used in the present invention also includes such a blended product after cold molding. Then, after the cold forming, hot press sintering is performed using the same type of hot press mold in vacuum or in an inert gas such as N2 , preferably at a pressure of 10 kg/mm2 or more and a temperature of 900 to 1250 °C. , and finish processing as desired. Any one type of Mo, W, B, and C may be used, but it is preferable to use two or more types, and Mo, W
A combination with B and C is recommended. Next, the present invention will be explained using Examples and Comparative Examples. Table 1 shows the chemical composition of the samples used in this example. The above sample was prepared by thoroughly loosening a predetermined amount (Table 1) of SiC whiskers, and adding residual components (Mo, W, B,
Mix the specified amount of C) (Table 1), mix well, place in a specified mold and cold form, then hot press sinter at 1250℃ in vacuum using the same type of hot press mold. After that, I did some finishing work and made it.

[Table] Next, heat resistance and oxidation resistance tests were conducted on the above-mentioned invention materials 1 to 5. That is, each sample of 15 x 50 x 5 mm was heated at 1700° C. for 1 hour in the air, and then the changes were investigated.
As a result, no change was observed in any of Inventive Materials 1 to 5, indicating that they had excellent heat resistance and oxidation resistance. Next, a thermal shock test was conducted on the sample having the above dimensions and shape. That is, a test was repeated in which the materials 1 to 5 of the present invention were first heated in a heating furnace at 1700°C and then immediately placed in cold water at 5°C. As a result, none of the samples developed cracks even after repeated cycles of 30 times or more, and was found to have excellent thermal shock resistance. Furthermore, using the materials 1 to 5 of the present invention, a swirl combustion chamber for a diesel engine as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 was press-sintered by the method described above, and a cycle test was performed on this product. The vortex combustion chamber of the diesel engine shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 will be described. In the figure, 1 is a combustion chamber, and 2 is a combustion gas nozzle. In FIG. 3, only the lower half of the combustion chamber is shown, and the upper half and cylinder are indicated by dotted lines. High-temperature, high-pressure combustion gas blows through the nozzle portion 2 at high speed, and the tip portions 21 and 22 reach a high temperature exceeding 100°C. Moreover, the combustion gas is oxidizing and corrosive. Therefore, high temperature corrosion resistance and heat crack resistance are required. The cycle test was conducted for a vortex combustion chamber used in a four-stroke diesel engine with a displacement of 2200 c.c., first at 4/4 load for 8 minutes at 5000 rpm, then at no load for 5 minutes at 1000 rpm for a total of 200 cycles.
This was repeated over time. After 200 hours, the corrosion status of the nozzle part of the combustion chamber and the occurrence of heat cracks were investigated. The results are shown in Table 2. As shown in Table 2, no corrosion was observed at the nozzle.
Also, no heat crack occurred. Table 2 also shows the test results for conventionally used SUH3 and Nimocast80 as comparative examples.

[Table] The nozzle part was first made by molding and sintering with Inventive Material 2, and the combustion chamber other than the nozzle part was cast with Comparative Material 1, and the same tests as above were conducted. In this case as well, no corrosion was observed at the nozzle, and no heat cracks occurred. Casting was carried out by the lost wax method, and the spout made of Inventive Material 2 was placed in a mold, and the molten metal of Comparative Material 1 was poured into it and cast. Next, as a result of measuring the thermal conductivity of Inventive Materials 2 and 4, the results showed values that were 10 to 20% larger than those of 100% SiC whiskers alone. This is thought to contribute to a certain extent to the extension of lifespan. As mentioned above, the composite material of the present invention has excellent heat and oxidation resistance, and also has excellent heat shock resistance, and when used for the combustion chamber of a diesel engine, no corrosion is observed and no heat cracks occur. It turns out that it is an excellent composite material. Furthermore, since the composite material of the present invention has such characteristics, it is suitable for use in the pre-combustion chamber of an engine, the main combustion chamber, especially the nozzle part of the swirl combustion chamber of a diesel engine, and is also used as a heat-resistant member in a radial tube. It is suitably used as equipment components that require heat resistance, heat crack resistance, etc., such as automobile heating plugs, burner nozzles, heat exchangers, turbo impeller impillars, exhaust pipes, and pistons.
