Reference numeral 15 denotes a compression unit that compresses a 32×32 character pattern into a 24×24 character pattern. The compression unit reads out a font pattern from the first pattern memory 13 based on the control signal C1, and converts the font pattern into a 24×24 font pattern. The compressed pattern is written into the second pattern memory 14. Although any known method may be used to compress the above pattern, the simplest method is to compress a 3-bit pattern in one-to-one correspondence with any 4-bit pattern, as shown in Figure 4. There is a method of replacing the 32×32 font pattern with a 3-bit pattern in units of 4 bits.

First, in step S1, an input key signal from the input means 4 is read, and in step S2, the type of the key signal is determined. In such a determination, when the input key signal is a cursor movement key, a numeric key, or an execution key, the process proceeds to steps S3, S4, and S5, respectively, and, although not clearly shown in FIG. When the end key is a certain end key, the process ends.

In step S6, the numerical value inputted from the input means 4 is displayed on the code area where the cursor is located on the display screen. Specifically, the numerical signal input from the input means 4 to the main control section 27 is sent to the display control section 17 together with the control signal C3, and the control section 1
At step 7, the above numerical value is displayed on the current cursor position. When step S6 is completed, the process returns to step S1.

In step S5, it is determined whether or not the current cursor is located in the area indicated by "[reference]" in FIG. 5. If it is determined that the cursor is not located in this determination, the process proceeds to step S7. Such S7
In this step, it is determined whether or not the current cursor is located in the area labeled "[Register]" in FIG. return.
Note that the determination in steps S5 and S7 is based on the fact that the display positions of "[Reference]" and "[Register]" on the screen are stored in advance in the main control section 27, and therefore the cursor position management section 26 This can be done by reading and comparing the positions.

Subsequently, in order to modify the font pattern in the first pattern memory 13, the cursor 25 is positioned within the first display area 19. Such movement is performed by operating the cursor movement key 7 at S10, S.
This is executed in a loop consisting of steps 11 and 14. Next, by operating the pattern change key, a loop consisting of steps S10, S11, and S15 is cycled through, and a "turtle" pattern, for example, as shown in the first display area 19 of FIG. 5 is created.

After correcting the pattern, when the first control key 8 is pressed, the current cursor position is within the first display area 19, so steps S10, S11, S12, and S16 are sequentially processed, and the font in the first pattern memory 13 is A compressed pattern of the pattern is written into the second pattern memory 14 and displayed as shown in FIG.

Next, the first and second pattern memories 13,
Move the font pattern stored in 14 to a desired location in font memory 1, e.g. character code "8801".
If you want to store it in a position corresponding to , first press the execution key 11. As a result, the process returns to step S1 from step S10 through step S11. In this state, the cursor is moved to the registration code area 22 on the display screen. Such processing is performed in S1 by operating the cursor movement key 7.
It is executed by sequentially processing steps S2 and S3.
Next, when the character code "8801" is inputted from the numeric keypad 6, steps S1, S2, S4, and S6 are sequentially processed, and the character code "8801" is displayed on the registered code area 22. Thereafter, by moving the cursor 25 to the "[Register]" position and pressing the execution key 11, steps S1, S2, S5, S7, and S8 are sequentially processed, and the font pattern in the first pattern memory 13 is stored in the font memory 1. The font pattern in the second pattern memory 14 corresponds to the character code "8801" in the display pattern area 3 in the font memory 1. written to the position.

In FIG. 6, when the process advances to step S10, the first and second control keys 8 and 9 are pressed alternately to create a loop consisting of steps S10, S11, S12, and S16, and a loop consisting of steps S10, S11, S13, and S17. By executing loops of steps alternately, a pattern compressed into multiple stages can be obtained.

(F) Effects of the Invention By using the present invention, not only can patterns having several different dot matrix sizes be easily created, but also patterns of different sizes can be displayed simultaneously with the dot matrix, so that patterns created as needed can be used. It is possible to modify one of the patterns while referring to the other.
