Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は、シール帯域内の熱可塑性材料の外層
を互いに接触させてこれらを一時的にシール温度
に加熱し、融着するようにして包装積層材料をヒ
ートシールする方法に関する。
本発明はまた、積層材料に押し付ける作用面を
備えた細長いシールジヨーを具備する包装積層材
料をヒートシールする装置に関する。
使い捨て方式の包装容器は、牛乳、果実飲料等
に用いられ、一般に積層包装材料で作られる。
包装材料は、両側を均質のプラスチツク材料の
薄い層で覆われた、比較的剛性の中心支持層を具
備する。この材料は、アルミニウムはくまたはそ
の他の材料を具備することもできる。この型の全
ての包装積層材料に共通の特徴は、これらがその
外側、少なくとも共内容物に面する側に熱可塑性
材料、通常はポリエチレンの層を具備し、それに
よつて互いに対向した積層材料の二つの部分を熱
と圧力とによつて共に液密状態にシールできるこ
とである。
シールが所望の強さと液密性とを有するために
は、共にシールすべき二つの熱可塑性の層が必ず
清浄で不純物の無いことが必要である。このよう
な場合には熱可塑性の各層の完全な融合を得るこ
とができ、その結果、強い高密封性の点から見て
最適のシールがもたらされる。熱可塑性の層の上
には通常、熱可塑性の層の押出しと共に包装積層
材料上に形成される薄い酸化物の被膜が存在する
ために熱可塑性の各層の完全な融点が往々にして
阻害され、従つてシールは理論的には可能な強さ
と密封性とを得られない。熱可塑性の層の表面に
は、例えば、更にシールを阻害する内容物の残留
物のような別の種類の不純物も生ずる可能性があ
る。これは、内容物が在る間に積層材料のシール
が行われる、即ちシールを行い得る前に互いに対
向して置かれた熱可塑性材料の表面間のすきまか
ら内容物を先ず押し出さなければならない、とい
う形式の包装製造に特有の問題である。しかし実
際問題として内容物は完全には絞り出されずに微
量の残留物が残り、これがシールを弱める。
本発明の目的は、前述の全ての難点が回避され
且つ得られたシールが最適の性状を有するように
前述の形式の包装積層材料をヒートシールするこ
とのできる方法を提供することを目的とする。
本発明の更に目的とするところは、たとえ包装
積層材料が例えば、酸化物、包装内容物の残留
物、あるいは残渣のような不純物で覆われていて
も最適なシールを可能とする包装積層材料をヒー
トシールする方法を提供することにある。
本発明の以上その他の目的は、シール帯域内の
熱可塑性材料の外層を互いに接触させ一時的にシ
ール温度まで加熱し融着させるようにした熱可塑
性材料を有する包装積層材料をヒートシールする
方法において、シール帯域内の熱可塑性の層を互
いに強力に押しつけ溶融熱可塑性材料を前記領域
からシール帯域の隣接領域へ流出させる段階を有
することを特徴とする本発明の方法によつて達成
される。この方法によれば、溶融熱可塑性材料が
シール帯域から隣接部分わきへ押しやられる間
に、溶融熱可塑性材料は可能な限りの不純物を混
入連行し、一方、互いに対向して置かれた積層材
料の二つの熱可塑性の層は、完全な融合が達成さ
れる程度にまで効果的に混合される。シール帯域
内には不純物の無い非常に薄い熱可塑性の層のみ
が残り、これが包装積層材料の支持層と密着し、
一方シール帯域の隣接領域内では双方の熱可塑性
の層からの良く混合された熱可塑性材料のたい積
部分によつて強みと優れた密封性が保証される。
本発明の更に目的とするところは、前述の形式
の包装積層材料をヒートシールする装置を提供す
ることにある。この装置は、シールされるべき材
料がたとえ完全に不純物の無いものでなくても、
最適な性状のシールが得られることを保証するも
のである。
本発明の更にまた、既知の装置に付随する欠点
をなくし、設計が簡単で信頼性のある包装積層材
料をヒートシールする装置を提供することにあ
る。更にこの装置は、これを周知の形式の包装機
械に適用し、低いコストで得るものでなければな
らない。
本発明の以上その他の目的は、積層材料に押し
付けることができる作用面を備えた細長いシール
ジヨーを具備する包装積層材料をヒートシールす
る装置において、作用面がほぼ突条を有すること
を特徴とする本発明によつて達成されている。前
記突条即ち細長い高くなつた面をシールジヨーに
設けることにより、組み合わされた二つの包装積
層材料に押し付けられた時に、積層材料が非常に
高い圧力で互いに押し付けられる線状のシール帯
域を作るジヨーが得られる。シールジヨーには突
条のみならず隣接領域をも含む積層材料を加熱す
る領域が具備されているので、加熱された熱可塑
性材料は線状領域から隣接領域へ高速で押しやら
れ、それにより既述のように効果的な混合と、従
つて優れたシールが得られる。
本発明によるこの方法ならびにこの装置の好適
な実施例を添付図を参照して、詳細に説明する。
第1図に示す包装積層材料は、牛乳およびその
他の飲料の包料にしばしば用いられる形式のもの
である。この包装積層材料は全体の厚さが0.4な
いし0.5mmで、繊維状物質の中央支持層1を具備
し、この層1はその両側を熱可塑性材料、特にポ
リエチレン、の比較的薄い均質な層2,3で覆わ
れている。外側のプラスチツク層3の一方と支持
層1との間には更にアルミニウムはくの層4がし
ばしば存在し、この層は熱可塑性材料(図示せ
ず)によつて支持層に接合され、外側の均質な層
3によつて完全に覆われる。外側の熱可塑性の層
2,3があるために、互いにシールされるべき各
部分を一緒に押し付け、同時に熱可塑性材料をそ
の溶融温度にまで加熱することにより、包装積層
品を容易にヒートシールすることができる。本発
明による方法および装置によつて他形式の包装積
層材料をシールすることももちろん可能である
が、その包装積層材料は熱可塑性材料の層を備え
なければならない、ということが前以て必要であ
る。
第2図は本発明による装置のシールジヨー5の
断面を部分的に示す。シールジヨー5は、電気的
に不導性の材料で作られ、導電性の材料、なるべ
くなら銅、の棒7が挿入される溝を一方の側面に
具えた本体6を具備する。本体の一方の側面の中
央に位置する棒7は、本体6の周囲の部分と共に
シールジヨー5の作用面8を形成する。加工面8
には、棒7内に形成された突条9が設けられる。
突条9は、断面がほぼ長方形であり、高さが積層
材料の厚さの0.2ないし0.8倍、なるべくは0.5倍の
範囲であり、幅が包装積層材料の厚さにほぼ等し
いものである。かくしてシールジヨー5の作用面
8は積層材料を加熱する中央に在る領域を具備
し、これに一方では突条9が、また他方では突条
の側に少なく共一つの隣接領域が具えられる。ア
ルミニウムはくを含む積層材料の高周波溶接を可
能とするために、棒7内の材料を介して、積層材
料を加熱する領域を高周波方式などの電源に接続
することができる。アルミニウムはくまたはその
他の導電性の層を含まない包装積層材料を一緒に
接合すべき場合には、積層材料を加熱する領域ま
たは棒7を加熱し、また例えば電気抵抗材料でこ
れを構成することもできる。
本発明によるシールジヨーは、材質ならびに形
式の異なつた包装容器のシールの必要条件を満た
すために、本発明の概念の範囲内で、これを種々
の方法で修正することができる。この種の代表的
な修正として、有害な温度上昇、あるいは加熱さ
れてはならない隣接領域への好ましくない熱の拡
散を防止する冷却剤、例えば水、の1個以上の導
管をシールジヨーに設けることができる。シール
ジヨーを、相互に動き得る幾つかの部分として設
計することもできる。例えば、突条9の両側にあ
るシールジヨーの部分を、突条9に対して動き得
るようにし且つ材料に向かう方向にばね荷重をか
け、それによつて適切な接触圧力が自動的に生ず
るようにすることができる。シールジヨーはこれ
を二重にすることができ、換言すれば、互いにあ
る距離を置いて設置された前述の形式の2個の本
体を具備することができる。この実施例は、包装
材料のチユーブが密封される、即ち二つの横断帯
域でシールされ且つこれらの間で切断される場合
に特に適しているが、それはシールジヨーの2個
の本体の間の空間でナイフまたはその他何等かの
適当な切断装置をその時に作動させることができ
るからである。
第3図は、本発明による方法と装置とによつて
二つの包装積層材料を一緒にシールする際のシー
ル順序を示す。二つの包装積層材料10,12
(または折り畳まれた同じ包装積層材料の二つの
部分)が、シールに備えて、それらの外層の熱可
塑性の層3が互いに対向するように接合されてい
る。包装積層材料は、シールジヨー5と、包装積
層材料の反対側に対向して位置する対向ジヨー1
2(一点鎖線で示す)とによつて一緒に押し付け
られる。このシールジヨー5は第2図に示す形式
のもので、一方対向ジヨー12には積層材料11
に対向して位置する平らな作用面が設けられる。
ジヨー5,12は液圧式または機械式の駆動装置
によつて往復運動できるようにして包装機械のフ
レーム(図示せず)に懸架され、これによりシー
ルの際ある程度の調節可能な力でこれらを一緒に
押し付けることができる。ジヨーが互いに向き合
つて動き、その間に置かれた包装積層材料10,
11を一緒に押し付け始めると同時にシールジヨ
ー5の棒7が高周波電源に接続される。このよう
にして包装積層材料のアルミニウム層4内に交番
磁界が誘導され、それによつてこれらが棒7の表
面に対応する領域内で隣接する熱可塑性の層の溶
融温度よりかなり高い温度にまで加熱される。生
成された熱はアルミニウム層間に位置する熱可塑
性の層3に直接伝達され、それによつてこれらが
溶融し、流体となる。包装積層材料を突起9と同
じ高さで一緒に押しやる高い圧力(約100Kg/cm2
のために、溶融熱可塑性材料はシール帯域13,
14全体の中の高圧の領域13から隣接部分14
に走り、または流れ込む。シール帯域13,14
の外方の領域で互いに対向して位置する熱可塑性
の層3は引き続き固体の状態を保ち、互いに対向
して押し付けられるので、溶融熱可塑性材料はそ
れ以上シール帯域外方に流出できずに参照番号1
4で示される二つの帯域に留まり、ここで細長い
圧力帯域13と平行に延びるふくらみ部分15を
形成し、その中で互いにシールされた二つの層が
混合される。帯域13内には表面の凹凸等のため
に絞り出され得ない微量のプラスチツク材料のみ
が残り、一方、この帯域の両側に形成されたふく
らみ部分15にはよく混合されたプラスチツクの
余剰分が包含され、実用上充分な強さのシールが
二つの層の間に得られる。帯域13から帯域14
に至る流れが非常に速いので、流動するプラスチ
ツク材料内に生ずる乱流によつて互いに対向して
位置する二つの層の間からのプラスチツク材料の
よい混合が保証され、したがつて表面に存在する
いかなる表面酸化物またはその他の不純物(例え
ば包装内容物の残留物からの)でもプラスチツク
内に効果的に混合され、それ故シールの強さを損
うような不純物のいかなる凝集性の膜も残存する
ことがない。
ある種の充てん物と共に使用するには、より幅
広く且つ平たんなふくらみ部分15を得るために
溶融熱可塑性材料の流れを突条部分から更に遠方
へ移行することが有利であろう。この手法によれ
ば、前述の実施例に比べて更に円滑且つ柔軟性の
あるシールを達成することが可能である。またこ
れによつて、シールをより強め、突出を生じて集
中応力がかかる部分のないような、より直線的な
シール・エツジが得られる。
前述の利点は、突条9の縦方向の縁の一方が作
用面8の加熱領域の一方の縁と概ね合致し(第4
図)、それによつて突条9に隣接する加熱領域が
突条の他の側の作用面8のレベルより高いレベル
に置かれる本発明の第2実施例によつて達成され
る。本発明の第2実施例の更に特徴とするところ
によれば、加熱区域のレベルと突条9のレベルと
の間の距離は、前記加熱区域と突条9の他の側の
作用面8のレベルとの間の距離にほぼ等しく、換
言すれば距離aは距離bとほぼ同等である(第4
図)。
本発明による装置の第2実施例が用いられる場
合には、加熱区域に対する突条9の非対称的な位
置決めにより、溶融熱可塑性材料の流れの絶対的
に多くの部分が突条の加熱される側に向けて指向
される。加熱区域が高い位置(本発明の第1実施
例に比べて)にあることにより、加熱区域の外側
に在り従つて固体の状態にある熱可塑性の層に到
達する前の熱可塑性材料の流れに、より小さく、
より細長い空間が残される。従つて突条9の直前
にある高圧帯域から絞り出された熱可塑性材料の
細長いふくらみ、またはたい積部分15は、ふく
らみ部をより柔軟性のあるものとし、シールを更
に強力なものとする、より平たんで細長い断面形
状を与えられる。
さらに、溶融熱可塑性材料のふくらみ、あるい
はたい積部分15が限定された線状の外見を具え
ることを保証するため、シール帯域13,14の
外側に位置する二つのプラスチツク積層品の部分
を冷却することもできる。これは、シール領域の
外側に位置して中に液体を通す冷却導管を2個の
ジヨー5,12に設けるか、あるいは内容物の外
に同時に力を加えて行われる形式のシールの場
合、包装積層材料の隣接部分を内容物で冷却させ
るか、のいずれかによつて達成することができ
る。
中央領域13から隣接領域14への溶融熱可塑
性材料の効果的な流れを確保するためには、熱可
塑性材料の温度が約130℃を超えると同時に、シ
ール帯域の線状領域13内の面圧が約100Kg/cm2
となるような力で突条9を包装積層材料に押し付
けなければならない。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 1 積層材料を互いにヒートシールする方法にし
    て、各積層材料は、その一表面を覆い、かつ該積
    層材料の融点より低い融点の熱可塑性材料の外層
    3を有するようになつているものにおいて、前記
    方法は、 前記積層材料をシール帯域13,14に沿つて
    重ね合わせ、前記熱可塑性材料の外層3の表面が
    前記シール帯域13,14以内で互いに接触させ
    るようにする段階と、 前記熱可塑性材料の外層3を前記シール帯域1
    3,14以内で該熱可塑性材料の融点まで加熱し
    て当該熱可塑性材料の外層3を溶融材料とする段
    階と、 前記熱可塑性材料の外層3を互いに圧して前記
    溶融材料を前記シール帯域13,14から流出さ
    せる段階と、 前記熱可塑性材料の外層3を冷却して前記溶融
    材料を硬化させ、前記シール帯域13,14以内
    で前記積層材料間に完ぺきなシール部分を形成さ
    せる段階と、 を有する積層材料を互いにヒートシールする方
    法。 2 特許請求の範囲の第1項に記載の方法におい
    て、前記溶融材料は、前記シール帯域13,14
    の両側へ流れ、前記熱可塑性材料の外層3の溶融
    していない部分によりせき止められ、これにより
    前記シール部分の両側に前記溶融材料の堆積15
    を形成させるようになつている方法。 3 特許請求の範囲の第2項に記載の方法におい
    て、前記積層材料は、前記シール帯域の両側で冷
    却されるようになつている方法。 4 積層材料をヒートシールするための装置にし
    て、各積層材料は、その一表面を覆い、かつ該積
    層材料の融点より低い融点の熱可塑性材料の外層
    3を有し、前記熱可塑性材料の外層3をシール帯
    域13,14に沿つて互いに重ね合わせて該シー
    ル帯域13,14以内で互いに接触させられ、さ
    らに該シール帯域13,14に沿つて前記熱可塑
    性材料の外層3の一つに押し付けられるようにな
    つた作用面8を有する細長いシールジヨー5有す
    るようになつている積層材料のヒートシール装置
    において、前記作用面8には、突条9が設けら
    れ、該突条9が、前記シール帯域以内で前記熱可
    塑性材料の外層3を互いに押し付けるようになつ
    ていることを特徴とする積層材料のヒートシール
    装置。
