入力側軸および出力側軸の軸方向に隣接する2つ
の前進変速段歯車列間には、それらの前進変速段
歯車列の一部を構成する歯車を入力側軸および出
力側軸の一方に択一的に連結可能な前進変速段確
立用クラツチ機構が配設される多段歯車変速機に
おいて、アイドル歯車は、入力側軸に固設される
後進用入力歯車に噛合する第1アイドル歯車と、
出力側軸に固設される後進用出力歯車に噛合する
とともに後進段確立用クラツチ機構を介して第1
アイドル歯車に連結可能な第2アイドル歯車とに
分割され、後進用入力歯車および後進用出力歯車
の少なくとも一方は、2つの前進変速段歯車列間
に介設される前進変速段確立用クラツチ機構に対
応する位置で入力側軸および出力側軸の他方に固
