Claims

[Scope of Claim for Utility Model Registration] A capstan that is rotationally driven by a motor, a drive gear that rotates integrally with the capstan, and a motor that rotates around the drive gear according to the direction of rotation of the drive gear while constantly meshing with the drive gear. A pair of orbiting planetary gears are arranged at a position where the orbiting planetary gear meshes with the orbiting planetary gear when the drive gear rotates in one direction, and a position where the orbiting planetary gear meshes when the drive gear rotates in the opposite direction. A reel gear, a reel stand rotated by the reel gear, and a planet gear arranged to mesh with the planet gear in the middle of a circular trajectory in which the planet gear moves from a position where it meshes with one reel gear to a position where it meshes with the other reel gear; a mode switching gear partially provided with teeth so as to be rotated by a certain angle by a gear; and a mode switching gear provided movably in directions approaching and away from the reel stand and facing the magnetic head and the capstan. A head base equipped with a pinch roller is arranged coaxially with the mode switching gear, and while the mode switching gear is being rotated in one direction by the planetary gear, the magnetic head is brought into contact with the magnetic tape, and the pinch roller is pressed against the capstan. A detection switch is provided to detect when the head base has moved forward to a position where the magnetic head contacts the magnetic tape, and the rotation of the drive gear causes the planetary gear to reel. When the head moves away from the base and engages the end of the partial teeth of the mode switching gear, if the backward movement of the head base is not detected by the detection switch for a certain period of time, the drive gear is reversed and the original rotation is resumed. What is claimed is: 1. A tape player comprising: a motor control member for returning the tape player;
