[Detailed description of the invention] [Industrial field of application] The present invention relates to an IC socket used in an IC handler, and in particular, it is capable of tolerating slight deformation of the IC leads. This invention relates to an IC handler socket that has been improved so that there is no risk of expanding the deformation.

Suitable for automatic installation means that the operator does not need to see it with his or her eyes or make corrections with his or her fingertips.
This means that the IC can be quickly and reliably attached to the socket without the operator having to adjust the operating force, and there is no risk of damaging the IC.

In order to insert the IC lead into the insertion port 3a, it is ideal if the IC lead 1b is directly facing the insertion port 3a, as shown by the imaginary line A position.

However, since the lead 1b of the IC shown in FIG. 3 is a long and thin piece of metal and is deformed by even a slight external force, it is difficult to eliminate minute distortions.

If the leads are slightly distorted in the X-axis direction (perpendicular to the direction in which they are arranged), as in position B shown by the imaginary line in FIG. 5, there will be no actual damage. The reason for this is that, as shown in Fig. 4, the insertion opening 3a of the contact terminal 3 is tapered upward, so even if the lead 1b is slightly biased in the X-axis direction, it will not be guided to the tapered surface. This is because it is inserted into the contact terminal 3.

However, if the lead is biased in the Y-axis direction, as in position C shown by the imaginary line in FIG. 5, it cannot be inserted into the insertion opening 3a. If a force is applied in the direction of inserting the lead in this state, the lead will buckle and cause irreparable damage.

(Note) Although minute deformations in the lead 1b can be easily corrected, if the lead is bent in a manner that causes it to buckle, it will no longer be acceptable as a first-class product.

This idea was created in view of the above circumstances.
Even if one or more of the IC leads are slightly deformed in the direction in which they are arranged (Y-axis direction), it is possible to install the IC into the socket without expanding the deformation (meaning buckling) and perform electrical The purpose is to provide a socket for an IC handler that can be used for performance testing.

In an IC handler, a large number of ICs are transported at high speed and inspected in a so-called assembly process, so if an IC handler fails to attach an IC to a socket and the operation is interrupted, a large loss occurs.

That is, in the conventional technology, when an IC lead has a slight distortion, it causes deformation of the lead and failure of attachment, increasing loss. If the present invention allows minute deformation of the lead and avoids stopping the operation of the IC handler, it will have great benefits.

By providing the above-described notch, even if the leads of the IC are deformed in the direction of arrangement, they can be inserted into the contact terminals of the socket, so there is no risk of buckling the leads and expanding damage.

As detailed above, according to the IC socket of the present invention, one or more of the IC leads can
Even if it is slightly deformed in the row direction (Y-axis direction), it has the excellent practical effect of being able to be attached to a socket and used for electrical performance testing without expanding this deformation (meaning buckling). This greatly contributes to improving the operating rate of IC handlers.
