Description
〔産業上の利用分野〕
本発明は、電子写真法、静電印刷法、静電記録
法などにおいて形成される静電荷像を現像するた
めのトナーに関するものである。
〔従来の技術〕
静電荷像の現像工程は、帯電せしめた微粒子を
静電引力により吸引せしめて静電荷像支持体の表
面に付着させ、これによつて静電荷像を可視化す
る工程である。
現像工程において可視化された画像はそのまま
支持体に定着されることもあるが、通常は転写紙
等の他の支持体に転写された後定着される。
現像工程において形成されたトナー像又はこれ
が転写された画像の定着は、一般に加熱定着方式
によるのが有利であり、この加熱定着方式には、
オーブン定着等の非接触加熱定着方式と、熱ロー
ラ定着等の接触加熱定着方式とがある。接触加熱
定着方式は、熱効率が高い点で優れており、消費
電力が少なくてよい利点がある。
しかしこの方式においては、オフセツト現象の
発生という重大な問題がある。これは、定着時に
像を構成するトナーの一部が熱ローラの表面に付
着し、これが次に送られて来る転写紙等に再転移
して画像を汚すという現象である。このオフセツ
ト現象を防止するための方法として、従来熱ロー
ラの表面にシリコンオイル等の離型油を塗布しな
がら定着を行なう方法があり、またトナーそれ自
体にオフセツト防止性能を有せしめる方法が知ら
れている。後者の方法は、シリコンオイル塗布機
構等が不要であるために定着器の構造が簡単とな
り、シリコンオイルの補給等のメンテナンスも不
要である等の点で優れている。
而してオフセツト現象は、熱ローラの温度が高
くなると発生するものであり、従つてオフセツト
現象が発生する最低温度(以下「オフセツト発生
温度」という。)が高いもの程、非オフセツト性
が良好なトナーということができるが、トナーが
定着されるためにはその軟化点以上の温度に加熱
されることが必要であり、このため実際の熱ロー
ラ定着器においては、熱ローラの温度は、トナー
の軟化点以上でオフセツト発生温度より低い範囲
の定着可能温度域内の特定の温度に設定される。
従つて定着可能温度ができるだけ低く、かつオ
フセツト発生温度ができるだけ高いもの、即ち定
着可能温度領域が広いものほどトナーとして好ま
しい。
トナーがこのような好ましい特性を有するため
には、トナーのバインダー樹脂が溶融時に適度な
粘性と適度な弾性を併せ持つことが要求される。
このようなバインダー樹脂としては、従来、数平
均分子量(Mn)に対する重量平均分子量(Mw)
の比Mw/Mnの値が3.5以上であるようなビニル
系重合体の樹脂が提案されている。しかしこの手
段では、高分子量のビニル系重合体の軟化点が高
いためにオフセツト発生温度が高くても広い定着
可能温度領域のトナーを得ることが困難であり、
十分満足できるものではない。
一方特開昭50−44836号公報には、架橋重合体
をトナー用バインダー樹脂として用いる手段が提
案されている。しかしこの手段も同様にオフセツ
ト発生温度を高くすることについては有利である
が定着可能温度を低くすることには限界があり、
十分満足できるものではない。
〔発明の目的〕
本発明の目的は、定着可能温度が低くかつオフ
セツト発生温度が高く、従つて定着可能温度領域
が広い静電荷像現像用トナーを提供することにあ
る。
本発明の他の目的は、現像性が良好で、高濃度
の画像を形成し得る静電荷像現像用トナーを提供
することにある。
本発明の更に他の目的は、スペントトナーが発
生しにくく、キヤリア汚染を起こしにくく、しか
も感光体に対して良好な非フイルミング性を有
し、連続画像形成において長期にわたつて安定し
た画像を形成することのできる静電荷像現像用ト
ナーを提供することにある。
〔発明の構成〕
上記の目的は、下記一般式〔〕で示されるス
ピログリコールによるジオール成分を含むポリエ
ステルを含有して成ることを特徴とする静電荷像
現像用トナーによつて達成される。
一般式〔〕
但し式中
R1,R2,R3,R4は、各々同一若しくは互に異
なる炭素数1乃至4の分岐状若しくは直鎖状のア
ルキル基、l,m,n,pの各々は1または2の
整数、x,yは各々1ノ至4の整数を表わす。
本発明においては、前記一般式〔〕で示され
るスピログリコールより成るアルコールと、カル
ボン酸との縮重合によつて得られるスピロ環含有
ポリエステルをバインダー樹脂として用い、これ
に着色剤及び必要な添加剤を含有せしめて静電荷
像現像用トナーとする。
前記一般式〔〕で表わされる種々のスピログ
リコールのうちでも、特に次の構造式で表わされ
る3,9−ビス(1,1−ジメチル−2−ヒドロ
キシエチル)−2,4,8,10−テトラオキサ
〔5.5〕ウンデカンが好ましい。
構造式
本発明においてトナーのバインダー樹脂として
用いるポリエステルを得るためのアルコールとし
ては、上述のスピログリコールに代表されるもの
の1種または2種以上のみを用いてもよいが、前
記一般式〔〕で示されるスピログリコールと他
のアルコールとを併用することもできる。ここに
他のアルコールとしては、例えばエチレングリコ
ール、ジエチレングリコール、トリエチレングリ
コール、1,2−プロピレングリコール、1,3
−プロピレングリコール、1,4−ブタンジオー
ル、ネオペンチルグリコール、1,4−ブテンジ
オール等のジオール類、1,4−ビス(ヒドロキ
シメチル)シクロヘキサン、及びビスフエノール
A、水素添加ビスフエノールA、ポリオキシエチ
レン化ビスフエノールA、ポリオキシプロピレン
化ビスフエノールA等のエーテル化ビスフエノー
ル類、その他の二価のアルコール単量体を挙げる
ことができる。
又カルボン酸としては、例えばマレイン酸、フ
マール酸、メサコン酸、シトラコン酸、イタコン
酸、グルタコン酸、フタル酸、イソフタル酸、テ
レフタル酸、シクロヘキサンジカルボン酸、コハ
ク酸、アジピン酸、セバチン酸、マロン酸、これ
らの酸の無水物、低級アルキルエステルとリノレ
イン酸の二量体、その他の二価の有機酸単量体を
挙げることができる。
本発明において用いるポリエステルとしては、
以上の二官能性単量体のみによる重合体のみでな
く、必要に応じ、三官能以上の多官能性単量体を
混合して用いてもよい。斯かる多官能性単量体で
ある三価以上の多価アルコールとしては、例えば
ソルビトール、1,2,3,6−ヘキサンテトロ
ール、1,4−ソルビタン、ペンタエリスリトー
ル、ジペンタエリスリトール、トリペンタエリス
リトール、蔗糖、1,2,4−ブタントリオー
ル、1,2,5−ペンタントリオール、グリセロ
ール、2−メチルプロパントリオール、2−メチ
ル−1,2,4−ブタントリオール、トリメチロ
ールエタン、トリメチロールプロパン、1,3,
5−トリヒドロキシメチルベンゼン、その他を挙
げることができる。
又三価以上の多価カルボン酸としては、例えば
1,2,4−ベンゼントリカルボン酸、1,2,
5−ベンゼントリカルボン酸、1,2,4−シク
ロヘキサントリカルボン酸、2,5,7−ナフタ
レントリカルボン酸、1,2,4ナフタレントリ
カルボン酸、1,2,4−ブタントリカルボン
酸、1,2,5−ヘキサントリカルボン酸、1,
3−ジカルボキシル−2−メチル−2−メチレン
カルボキシルプロパン、テトラ(メチレンカルボ
キシル)メタン、1,2,7,8−オクタンテト
ラカルボン酸、及びこれらの酸無水物その他を挙
げることができる。
本発明トナーのトナー粒子中には、通常着色剤
及び必要に応じて添加剤が含有され、また磁性ト
ナーとする場合には、着色剤と共に、或いは着色
剤の代りに磁性体が含有せしめられる。
着色剤としては、カーボンブラツク、ニグロシ
ン染料(C.I.No.50415B)、アニリンブルー(C.I.No.
50405)、カルコオイルブルー(C.I.No.azoec
Blue3)、クロムイエロー(C.I.No.14090)、ウルト
ラマリンブルー(C.I.No.77103)、デユポンオイル
レツド(C.I.No.26105)、キノリンイエロー(C.I.
No.47005)、メチレンブルークロライド(C.I.No.
52015)、フタロシアニンブルー(C.I.No.74160)、
マラカイトグリーンオクサレート(C.I.No.
42000)、ランプブラツク(C.I.No.77266)、ローズ
ベンガル(C.I.No.45435)、これらの混合物、その
他を挙げることができる。これら着色剤は、十分
な濃度の可視像が形成されるに十分な割合で含有
されることが必要であり、通常バインダー100重
量部に対して1〜20重量部程度の割合とされる。
前記磁性体としては、フエライト、マグネタイ
トを始めとする鉄、コバルト、ニツケルなどの強
磁性を示す金属若しくは合金又はこれらの元素を
含む化合物、或いは強磁性元素を含まないが適当
な熱処理を施すことによつて強磁性を示すように
なる合金、例えばマンガン−銅−アルミニウム、
マンガン−銅−錫などのマンガンと銅とを含むホ
イスラー合金と呼ばれる種類の合金、又は二酸化
クロム、その他を挙げることができる。これらの
磁性体は平均粒径0.1〜1ミクロンの微粉末の形
でバインダー中に均一に分散される。そしてその
含有量は、トナー100重量部当り20〜70重量部、
好ましくは40〜70重量部である。
本発明トナーにおいては、トナー粒子中にオフ
セツト防止剤を含有せしめることができ、ここに
オフセツト防止剤としては、例えばポリオレフイ
ン、脂肪酸金属塩、脂肪酸エステル、部分ケン化
脂肪酸エステル、高級脂肪酸、高級アルコール、
流動又は固形のパラフインワツクス、アミド系ワ
ツクス、多価アルコールエステル、シリコンワニ
ス、脂肪族フロロカーボン等を挙げることができ
る。尚斯かるオフセツト防止剤は任意の一種又は
二種以上を混合して使用することができる。
前記ポリオレフインとしては、例えばポリプロ
ピレン、ポリエチレン、ポリブテン等の樹脂であ
つてJIS K 2531−1960に規定される環球法で測
定したときの軟化点が80〜180℃、好ましくは100
〜160℃のものである。前記脂肪酸金属塩として
は、例えばマレイン酸と亜鉛、マグネシウム、カ
ルシウム等との金属塩;ステアリン酸と亜鉛、カ
ドミウム、バリウム、鉛、鉄、ニツケル、コバル
ト、銅、アルミニウム、マグネシウム等との金属
塩;二塩基性ステアリン酸鉛;オレイン酸と亜
鉛、マグネシウム、鉄、コバルト、銅、鉛、カル
シウム等との金属塩;パルミチン酸とアルミニウ
ム、カルシウム等との金属塩;カプリル酸鉛;カ
プロン酸鉛;リノール酸と亜鉛、コバルト等との
金属塩;リシノール酸カルシウム;リシノレイン
酸と亜鉛、カドミウム等との金属塩及びこれらの
混合物等が挙げられる。前記脂肪酸エステルとし
ては、例えばマレイン酸エチルエステル、マレイ
ン酸ブチルエステル、ステアリン酸メチルエステ
ル、ステアリン酸ブチルエステル、パルミチン酸
セチルエステル、モンタン酸エチレングリコール
エステル等が挙げられる。前記部分ケン化脂肪酸
エステルとしては、例えばモンタン酸エステルの
カルシウム部分ケン化物等が挙げられる。前記高
級脂肪酸としては、例えばドデカン酸、ラウリン
酸、ミリスチン酸パルミチン酸、ステアリン酸、
オレイン酸、リノール酸、リシノール酸、アラキ
ン酸、ベヘン酸、リグノセリン酸、セラコレイン
酸等及びこれらの混合物を挙げることができる。
前記高級アルコールとしては、例えばドデシルア
ルコール、ラウリルアルコール、ミリスチルアル
コール、パルミチルアルコール、ステアリルアル
コール、アラキルアルコール、ベヘニルアルコー
ル等を挙げることができる。前記パラフインワツ
クスとしては、例えば天然パラフイン、マイクロ
ワツクス、合成パラフイン、塩素化炭化水素等が
挙げられる。前記アミド系ワツクスとしては、例
えばステアリン酸アミド、オレイン酸アミド、パ
ルミチン酸アミド、ラウリル酸アミド、ベヘニン
酸アミド、メチレンビスステアロアミド、エチレ
ンビスステアロアミド等が挙げられる。前記多価
アルコールエステルとしては、例えばグリセリン
ステアレート、グリセリンリシノレート、グリセ
リンモノベヘネート、ソルビタンモノステアレー
ト、プロピレングリコールモノステアレート、ソ
ルビタントリオレート等が挙げられる。前記シリ
コンワニスとしては、例えばメチルシリコンワニ
ス、フエニルシリコンワニス等が挙げられる。前
記脂肪族フロロカーボンとしては、例えば四フツ
化エチレン、六フツ化プロピレンの低重合化合物
或いは特開昭53−124428号公報記載の含フツ素界
面活性剤等が挙げられる。
これらのオフセツト防止剤の前記バインダーに
対する割合は、通常0.5〜20重量%であり、好ま
しくは1〜10重量%である。
又トナー粒子中に適宜の特性改良剤を加えるこ
とができる。ここに特性改良剤は、トナーの流動
性、非フイルミング性即ちキヤリア又は静電荷像
の表面にトナーの一部が付着して生ずるフイルミ
ングを起さない特性、粉砕性、帯電性等の特性を
改良する目的で含有されるものであつて、これに
は樹脂が含まれる。好ましく用いられる樹脂は、
例えばスチレン、パラクロルスチレンなどのスチ
レン類、ビニルナフタレン、例えば塩化ビニル、
臭化ビニル、フツ化ビニル、酢酸ビニル、プロピ
オン酸ビニル、ベンゾエ酸ビニル、酪酸ビニルな
どのビニルエステル類、例えばアクリル酸メチ
ル、アクリル酸エチル、アクリル酸n−ブチル、
アクリル酸イソブチル、アクリル酸ドデシル、ア
クリル酸n−オクチル、アクリル酸2−クロルエ
チル、アクリル酸フエニル、α−クロルアクリル
酸メチル、メタクリル酸メチル、メタクリル酸エ
チル、メタクリル酸ブチルなどのメチレン脂肪族
カルボン酸エステル類、アクリロニトリル、メタ
クリロニトリル、アクリルアミド、例えばビニル
メチルエーテル、ビニルイソブチルエーテル、ビ
ニルエチルエーテルなどのビニルエーテル類、例
えばビニルメチルケトン、ビニルヘキシルケトン
などのビニルケトン類、例えばN−ビニルピロー
ル、N−ビニルカルバゾール、N−ビニルインド
ール、N−ビニルピロリドンなどのN−ビニル化
合物類、その他の単量体を重合せしめて得られる
ホモポリマー又はこれらの単量体の2種以上を組
み合せて共重合せしめて得られるコポリマー或い
はそれらの混合物、又は例えばロジン変性フエノ
ールホルマリン樹脂、油変性エポキシ樹脂、ポリ
ウレタン樹脂、セルローズ樹脂、ポリエーテル樹
脂などの非ビニル系熱可塑性樹脂などの非ビニル
系樹脂、或いはそれらと上述のビニル系樹脂との
混合物を挙げることができる。
これらの樹脂は、本発明による効果を阻害しな
い範囲で、バインダーの70重量%以下の含有割合
で含有せしめることができる。
本発明トナーには、流動性改良剤として疎水性
シリカの微粉末を混合することができる。その好
ましい例としては、日本アエロジル社製の「アエ
ロジルR972」「シリカD−17」等を挙げることが
できる。又脂肪酸金属塩を添加することができ、
オフセツト防止剤として既に述べた脂肪酸金属塩
と同じものを用いることができる。これらの混合
割合は、各々トナー粒子粉末に対して0.01〜10重
量%である。
〔発明の効果〕
本発明トナーは以上の通りであるので、そのバ
インダー樹脂を構成するポリエステル中に、アル
コールに由来するスピロ環が含有されており、剛
直な物性を与えるこのスピロ環の存在により、当
該ポリエステルは、特に架橋密度を上げることな
しに、溶融したときに高い弾性率と低い粘性を示
すものとなり、この結果、本発明によるトナーは
低い軟化点と優れた非オフセツト性を有するもの
となる。即ち定着可能温度が低くてオフセツト発
生温度が高く、従つて定着可能温度域の広いトナ
ーとなり、良好な定着が確実に行なわれ、また定
着に関する厳しい制約を緩和することができる。
以下本発明の実施例について説明するが、本発
明がこれらに限定されるものではない。
合成例 1
テレフタル酸166gと、構造式
で示されるスピログリコール243gと、エチレン
グリコール12.4gとを、軟化点において反応を追
跡しながら200℃で反応せしめてポリエステルA
を製造した。このポリエステルAの環球軟化点
(JISK 2531−1960の方法による。以下において
同じ)は130℃であつた。
合成例 2
イソフタル酸166gと、合成例1で用いたスピ
ログリコール213gとプロピレングリコール23g
とを用い、合成例1と同様にして200℃で反応さ
せ、環球軟化点127℃のポリエステルBを製造し
た。
合成例 3
テレフタル酸166gと、合成例1で用いたスピ
ログリコール213gと、エチレングリコール12.4
gと、ペンタエリスリトール7gとを用い、合成
例1と同様にして反応させ、環球軟化点132℃の
ポリエステルCを製造した。
実施例 1
ポリエステルAの100重量部と、カーボンブラ
ツク7重量部と、オフセツト防止剤としてポリプ
ロピレン「ビスコール660p」(三洋化成社製)3
重量部と混合し、練肉、粉砕、分級の工程を含む
通常の方法により、平均粒径10.5ミクロンの本発
明トナーを製造した。これを「試料1」とする。
実施例 2
ポリエステルAの代りにポリエステルBを用い
たほかは実施例1と同様にして本発明トナーを製
造した。これを「試料2」とする。
実施例 3
ポリエステルAの代りにポリエステルCを用い
たほかは実施例1と同様にして本発明のトナーを
製造した。これを「試料3」とする。
実験例 1
実施例1〜3によつて製造された試料1〜3の

There are non-contact heat fixing methods such as oven fixing and contact heat fixing methods such as heated roller fixing. The contact heat fixing method is superior in that it has high thermal efficiency and has the advantage of requiring less power consumption. However, this method has a serious problem of occurrence of an offset phenomenon. This is a phenomenon in which a portion of the toner constituting the image adheres to the surface of the heat roller during fixing, and this is transferred again to the transfer paper or the like that is fed next, staining the image. Conventional methods for preventing this offset phenomenon include a method of applying release oil such as silicone oil to the surface of a heat roller while fixing the toner, and a known method of providing the toner itself with anti-offset properties. ing. The latter method is superior in that the structure of the fixing device is simple because a silicone oil application mechanism or the like is not required, and maintenance such as replenishment of silicone oil is not required. Therefore, the offset phenomenon occurs when the temperature of the heat roller increases, and therefore, the higher the minimum temperature at which the offset phenomenon occurs (hereinafter referred to as "offset occurrence temperature"), the better the non-offset property is. Conventionally, for such binder resins, the weight average molecular weight (Mw) is compared to the number average molecular weight (Mn).
A vinyl polymer resin having a ratio Mw/Mn of 3.5 or more has been proposed. However, with this method, it is difficult to obtain a toner with a wide fixable temperature range even if the offset generation temperature is high due to the high softening point of the high molecular weight vinyl polymer.
It's not completely satisfying. On the other hand, JP-A-50-44836 proposes a method of using a crosslinked polymer as a binder resin for toner. However, although this method is advantageous in raising the offset generation temperature, it has a limit in lowering the fixing temperature.
