In the above type of thermal display device, when electric power is applied to the thermal head during printing, the surface of the head reaches a temperature of several hundred degrees Celsius. In this way, the hot head presses against the surface of the thermal display and moves left and right to print, and the display is rotated and used repeatedly, resulting in the same area being printed over and over again. Therefore, surface damage is likely to occur, shortening its lifespan. As a measure to extend the life of such a heat-sensitive display, it is conceivable to provide a transparent, heat-resistant, and scratch-resistant coating over the entire surface. The reason why the entire coating must be transparent is that when the part of the display body that carries the printed image in the printing section moves to the display section, the image formed under the coating must be visible. It is from. Providing a coating with such performance over the entire surface of the display is extremely troublesome, and the display becomes expensive.

In the present invention, a diaphragm is disposed between the surface of the heat-sensitive display and the thermal head in the printing section of the above-mentioned type of heat-sensitive display. Thereby, printing is performed via the diaphragm without the thermal head directly contacting the display surface. The diaphragm body may be fixedly arranged at the above-mentioned position of the printing part, but it is possible to prevent deterioration of the diaphragm surface due to repeated printing by providing a feeding and winding mechanism that can move in a direction perpendicular to the moving direction of the display body. It is not necessary to replace the entire diaphragm for a long period of time.

The properties required of the material for the diaphragm are (1) minimal deformation due to thermal head heat, (2) good sliding of the head on the surface and no damage to the head, and (3) resistance to repeated use. However, conditions (1) and (2) above must be satisfied. The diaphragm should preferably be a thin film with a thickness of 5 to 100 .mu.m, preferably 10 to 50 .mu.m, so that the heat transferred from the head can be sufficiently transmitted to the display without being diffused inside. If this diaphragm body exists only in the printing area, it can fully perform its function and is not necessary in the display area. Therefore, it does not need to be transparent. Specifically, polyimide, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyvinyl chloride, cellulose acetate, nylon 66, poly-

In the case of a metal film, a surface coating may be applied for the purpose of surface smoothness, rust prevention, etc.

FIG. 1 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the thermal display device of the present invention, in which a thermal head 3 is used to print a diaphragm 5 at a printing section A.
The printed portion of the display body 2 is transferred to the display section B by the rotation of the drive pulley 4, maintained at a constant temperature by the heat insulating plate 7, and used for display. The printed portion of the display body is further moved to the erasing section C,
It is cooled and erased by the surrounding air and the heat radiator 8 between them.

FIG. 2 is a cross-sectional view of the printing section of the device. The diaphragm body 5 is arranged from 1 to 1 from the surface of the display body 2 in the printing part.
They are placed at 5mm intervals. In the printing section, the printing head 3 presses the diaphragm 5 and the display 2 against the platen 6 (solid line in the figure). When printing is finished, the head 3 separates from the platen 6, and the diaphragm 5 also separates from the display 2 (dashed line in the figure). If the display body 2 is moved in this state, the display body 2 can be easily moved without touching the diaphragm body 5. In this case, if the bobbin 9 is provided with a winding mechanism, a new surface can be gradually supplied as the surface of the diaphragm 5 deteriorates due to printing, and there is no need to replace the entire diaphragm for a long period of time.

As described above, in the thermal display device of the present invention, due to the above-mentioned improvements in the printing section, printing is performed via the diaphragm without the high temperature printing head directly touching the display surface. By installing a diaphragm that only covers the surface of the display in the small-area printing area, the display can last for a long time without having to perform special treatments such as coatings that can withstand high-temperature scratches on the large-area display. was able to increase significantly.
