Abstract

PURPOSE:To simultaneously edit the same document data by plural terminals or the like by providing the document editing device with a means for controlling the validity of edition in each minimum edition unit. CONSTITUTION:Document data are divided in each minimum edition unit and controlled so that the minimum edition units can be individually displayed and edited and control information is included in each minimum edition unit. The means for controlling the validity of edition in each minimum edition unit inputs each unit such as a logical structure unit, a page unit or an area unit in each page to a memory, edits or writes each unit. Consequently, the same document data can be simultaneously edited by plural terminals or the like and document editing work can be distributed.

However, the above-mentioned conventional technology does not take into account simultaneous editing of the same document data from multiple terminals, etc. Therefore, when editing a document containing a large amount of data, a single editing device is required to edit the same document data. Editing must be done consistently from start to finish, or by each person in charge using multiple editing devices and then combining the documents into one document. However, with the former method, The disadvantage is that editing takes a huge amount of time because it is done on a single editing device. Furthermore, in the latter method, the documents are managed as multiple documents, which takes time and effort. For example, common information related to the entire document (standard font size, margins,
If there is a change to this common information, it will have to be changed for all of them. Also, each document will be a separate document, so when copying or moving pages, The operation is cumbersome and time-consuming when performing the operations between two documents.

Document data is managed by being divided into minimum editing units so that they can be displayed and edited individually, and management information is provided for each minimum editing unit (see FIG. 4). Then, there is a means to manage whether or not editing is possible for each minimum editing unit.
Based on the content of the management information, the information is read, edited, or written into the editing memory in each logical structure unit, page unit, or area unit within a page. This makes it possible to simultaneously edit the same document data using multiple terminals.

When editing a document, the common information is read out to the memory 52 and the data of the minimum editing unit to be edited is read out to the memory 53, as described above. At this time, as shown in FIG. 6, the reference flag and update flag in the management information 225 are checked, and the flag is read only when the flag is OFF, and when the flag is ON, it is controlled as being unusable. Note that even if each flag is ON (in use), there is no problem if it is the own terminal, so this is checked using the device ID and terminal ID, and the above control is performed (step 80-1.8O-2). .

By performing the above processing, operations as shown in FIG. 8 can be performed. That is, FIG. 8 is a diagram showing that the character string at the end of the corresponding page flows to the next page by inserting the character string into the corresponding page. If the page is full of character strings and a character string is inserted, there will be a surplus of character strings at the end of the page corresponding to the number of inserted characters. Therefore, by the operation described above, this extra character string is inserted at the top of the next page. Repeat this until the next page is no longer affected. Note that if the next page is being used by another terminal, the above operation is temporarily interrupted and the data is reflected after waiting for the next page to finish being used.

FIG. 9 is similar to FIG. 8, but shows that not only character strings are transferred to the next page, but also areas within the page (graphics in this case) are transferred by similar processing. In the case of this diagram,
The character string "weather" and the area are connected, and by inserting the character string at the beginning of page 0, the character string "weather" moves to the next page, so the area also moves to the next page.
