出力で放電灯を点灯する装置において、前記全波
整流器の正負両極側出力端子間に接続され、駆動
用変圧器の一対の駆動巻線の各出力により交互に
オン・オフ制御される一対のスイツチング素子と
、この両スイツチング素子に対しそれぞれ並列に
且つ互いに直列接続された一対のコンデンサと、
この両コンデンサの中間接続点と前記両スイツチ
ング素子の中間接続点との間に直列接続された放
電灯およびインダクタンス素子と、放電灯に並列
接続されて前記コンデンサおよび前記インダクタ
ンス素子と共に放電灯を点灯させる直列共振回路
を構成するキヤパシタンス素子と、前記インダク
タンス素子または前記直列共振回路に介挿接続さ
れた他のインダクタンス素子から変流器的に導出
された2次巻線と、この2次巻線の出力を全波整
流した直流電圧を少くとも2種の閾値電圧と比較
し、放電灯が未装着の無負荷状態および放電灯の
エミツシヨンレスにおける予熱状態の2種の異常
状態と通常の始動または点灯の正常負荷状態との
計3状態を検出する判別回路と、この判別回路か
らの異常状態の検出信号の出力により前記インバ
ータの発振を停止させる保護回路と、前記判別回
路を検出信号の無出力状態に復帰させて前記保護
回路を元の状態に復帰させるリセツト部とを備え
