Although the quenching temperature of the present invention is as low as that of ordinary die steel, it has high quenching hardness and good toughness.
Properties similar to those of high speed steel can be obtained, and therefore it particularly relates to cold work tool steel for carbide coating. In recent years, carbide coating treatment has been developed and spread as one of surface treatments. For example, TD processing and CVD methods are well known. This treatment is carried out at high temperatures by adding carbide-forming elements, such as Cr, from the outside.
V, Nb, Ti, etc. are supplied and brought into contact with the surface of the base material, and the carbon on the surface of the base material or the carbon supplied from the outside reacts to form a carbide layer on the surface of the base material, giving it wear resistance. It is mainly applied to tool steel for cold working. The processing temperature is approximately 950° to 1050°C, regardless of the type of base material. Therefore, if the quenching temperature is the same for the base material, quenching can be carried out immediately after this treatment.
Economically advantageous. Therefore, die steel such as JIS SKD11, which is quenched at this temperature, is often used for this carbide coating treatment.
However, with these die steels, if the hardness of the base metal is tempered at a high temperature after quenching, the maximum hardness of the base metal will only be about H R C59. etc.), but they sacrifice toughness or
Increases heat treatment costs. Generally, high-speed steel or semi-high-speed steel is used because of its higher hardness and toughness. However, since the quenching temperature of high-speed steel or semi-high-speed steel is as high as 1100° to 1250°C, after carbide coating treatment,
It is necessary to further raise the temperature to that temperature, but this is difficult for various reasons, so currently, quenching is performed from that temperature immediately after the carbide coating treatment, and after cooling, it is heated in another furnace.
A method of reheating and hardening using vacuum heat treatment is often used. This takes a lot of time, effort,
Improvements were desired due to the high equipment costs. The present invention has been developed in view of the above, and the quenching temperature is the same as the carbide coating treatment temperature, and by immediately quenching and tempering after the carbide coating treatment, H R It is a steel that provides hardness and sufficient toughness, and its main points are: C: 0.65-0.89% Si: 0.50-1.50% Mn: 0.30-1.50% Cr: 8.1-10.0% Mo: 0.75-1.95% A high hardness and toughness cold work tool steel for carbide coating treatment, which contains V: 0.50 to 1.0% and the remainder consists of Fe and unavoidable impurities. Next, reasons for limiting various components in the present invention will be explained. C: 0.65 to ensure hardness as cold work tool steel
% is necessary, and if it exceeds 0.89%, there will be significant deterioration in terms of toughness, so the range of C should be 0.65 to 0.89. Si: Si dissolves in solid solution in the base material and is effective in increasing the strength of the base material and resisting temper softening, but it is not effective if it is less than 0.5%, and even if it is increased to more than 1.5%, the effect is saturated and the toughness is also reduced. . Therefore, Si should be 0.5 to 1.5%. Mn: Mn is added for the purpose of improving hot workability and hardenability, but if it is less than 0.3%, the degree of improvement is small. Also, adding more than 1.5% does not work effectively. Therefore, Mn should be 0.3 to 1.5%. Cr: Cr combines with C to form a hard carbide, contributes to wear resistance, and is effective in improving temper softening resistance and hardenability. If it is less than 8.1%, it will not be possible to obtain H R C60 or higher by high-temperature tempering after quenching at the quenching temperature of die steel (1020-1050℃), and the required wear resistance and hardenability will not be obtained. If it exceeds 10%, the toughness will decrease. Therefore, Cr was set at 8.1 to 10%. Mo: Mo is effective for toughness and secondary hardening during tempering, but
If it is less than 0.75%, the die steel quenching temperature (1020−
H R C60 by high tempering after quenching at 1050℃)
You can't get more than that. Moreover, when it exceeds 1.95%, toughness deteriorates. Therefore, Mo was set at 0.75% to 1.95%. V: V is effective in secondary hardening, forms hard carbides with C, greatly contributes to improving wear resistance, and refines crystal grains. If it is less than 0.5%, there is little contribution to secondary hardening and wear resistance, and if it exceeds 1.0%, the toughness deteriorates. In order to obtain H R C60 or higher by high temperature tempering, the quenching temperature must be higher than die steel (1050℃).
(above), and low temperature quenching (1020-1050°C), which is a feature of the present invention, cannot be performed. Therefore, V is set at 0.5-1.0%. In other words, the steel of the present invention takes into account the balance of C and Cr in order to suppress the formation of giant carbides that are harmful to toughness, and also has a quenching temperature of 1020~
The Mo content is increased to obtain high hardness even when quenched at 1050℃ and tempered at high temperatures, and C, Cr, Mo,
This is a well-balanced V. That is, since high hardness and high toughness can be obtained by quenching at a relatively low temperature (1020 to 1050°C), it is the most suitable steel for carbide coating treatment. A publicly known example that partially overlaps with the present invention in terms of steel composition is ``Stainless steel for razor blades with high heat treatment hardness'' published in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 53-114719. The purpose is to maintain the sharpness of the steel, and the required characteristics cannot be obtained unless high quenching temperatures, sub-zero treatment, and low tempering temperatures are used. Since it tends to remain, N is regulated low. In contrast, the present invention is for dies, mandrels, etc. used in cold conditions and is used after being coated with carbide. Coating properties are strongly required, and the required properties can be obtained at low quenching temperatures, no sub-zero treatment, and high tempering temperatures, and this difference is due to the difference in composition. The characteristics of the steel of the present invention will be explained below based on the experimental results. Table 1 shows the chemical composition of the test steel. Furthermore, Table 2 shows the experimental results of quenching/tempering hardness, Shapey impact toughness, and wear resistance (specific wear amount) for this test steel. As shown in Table 2, the steels (A) to (E) of the present invention can obtain H R C61 or higher by heat treatment equivalent to die steel, have a Charpy impact toughness of 2 to 3 times that of die steel, and a wear resistance of It is equivalent to or better than die steel.Furthermore, when comparing the steel of the present invention with high speed steel (G) or matrix high speed steel (H), in the case of high speed steel (G), it is superior to the steel of the present invention in hardness, but in terms of toughness. It is inferior in quality, and the heat treatment involves high-temperature quenching, which increases costs. Also,
In the case of matrix high-speed steel (H), the steel of the present invention has the same or higher hardness, toughness, and wear resistance. Regarding heat treatment, the steel of the present invention is quenched at a lower temperature than matrix high-speed steel, so the heat treatment cost is also lower. Become. Next, Table 3 shows the carbide coating treatment temperature of the sample materials, the quenching and tempering hardness at that temperature, and the re-quenching and tempering conditions and hardness for SKH9 and matrix HSS.
