Description
考案の目的 Purpose of invention
本考案は、スポーツとくにアイスホツケー、ア
メリカンフツトボール、野球などに使用するプロ
テクターに関する。

上記したようなスポーツをするプレーヤーを保
護するためのプロテクターは、多くは革製で必要
により内部に緩衝材を詰めたものである。いずれ
もも重量が重く、通気性が悪く、かつ摩耗にはあ
まり耐えないし、金属などの鋭利な縁が接触する
と切れるという点で、なお改善の余地があつた。

図面に一例を示す本考案のプロテクター1は、
ゴムのような弾性物質の衝撃吸収体2の一方また
は両方の面(図では両方の面)に、超高分子量ポ
リエチレンの繊維で製造した布または網3A,3
Bを重ね合わせてなることを特徴とする。
本考案に用いる超高分子量ポリエチレンは、デ
カリン溶媒135℃における極限粘度[η]が5
dl/g以上、好ましくは7〜30dl/gの範囲のも
のである。[η]が5dl/g未満のものは、繊維
化は容易であるが、延伸しても引張強度のすぐれ
た繊維が得られない。一方、[η]の上限はとく
に限定されないが、30dl/gを超えるものは繊維
化が困難な傾向にある。上記の超高分子量ポリエ
チレンは、エチレンまたはエチレンと少量の他の
α−オレフイン、たとえばプロピレン、1−ブテ
ン、4−メチル−1−ペンテン、1−ヘキセン等
とを、いわゆる中低圧重合法で重合して得られる
ポリエチレンの中で、はるかに分子量が高い範ち
ゆうのものである。
また、本考案における超高分子量ポリエチレン
の繊維とは、上記超高分子量ポリエチレンの分子
鎖が高度に配向した高弾性率、高引張強度を有す
る繊維、テープ、あるいはテープを解繊した繊維
等である。このような特性を有する繊維の製造方
法はそくに限定されないが、たとえば特開昭56−
15408号公報、特開昭58−5228号公報に記載され
たような、超高分子量ポリエチレンを溶媒で希釈
したのち紡糸延伸する方法、あるいは特開昭59−
108116号公報、特開昭59−187614号に開示された
方法等により調整することができる。本考案で用
いる超高分子量ポリエチレン繊維は、引張弾性率
(初期)が30GPa以上、望ましくは500GPa以上、
引張強度が1.5GPa以上、望ましくは1.7GPa以上
であつて、伸びが6%以下、望ましくは4%以下
のものが好ましい。
衝撃吸収体2の材質および形状は任意である。
また、必要に応じて、他の材料を組み合わせて形
成してもよい。

考案の効果
本考案のプロテクターは、重量を軽くつくるこ
とができ、通気性、滑り性、耐摩耗性等がよく、
かつ衝撃吸収力がすぐれているので、アイスホツ
ケー、アメリカンフツトボールや野球などのスポ
ーツ用プロテクターとして好適である。耐摩耗性
がよく、鋭利な縁があたつても切れ難いという利
点もある。
